Another ebay gem.......
Note: Though touched-up after the war, which destroys the integrity of some of the equipment, I like the young Negro orderly (I suggest an orderly since most cavalryman- even Negro ones would likely not wear gaiters).
This saddle looks "brand new" to me. Its crips leather and it shines so.
Sometimes, it may seem that posting these never ending photos of Federal cavalryman is a bit redundant, monotonous and of little value. However, even though there is not much here to comment on perhaps someday with more knowledge and new technology there will be some real value to be gleaned even from what appears now as the most repetitive photos. In any event, since these photos are often held in private hands the opportunity to make them public does a lot to preserve them for future research.
