  • Converting an Armi Sport 59' to an early 59' brass mounted.

Im in search of a brass patchbox and barrel band to convert my 59' AS to an early pattern Brass mounted 59'. Tried the search engine with no luck. I have checked with all the ususal suspects S&S, Lodgewood etc. with no luck. Just to be clear im not looking for the flat Richmond style barrel band but the rounded Sharp's mfg co. style. Thanks for any and all help.

Rifle Shoppe? Their wait time can be long and parts need finishing, but they'd be worth a call.

      Hallo!

Without digging out their catalog, I do not recall RIFLE SHOPPE offering brass Sharps M1855 or transitional M1859 brass parts.

For a while, some parts sellers used to carry the left over Robinson CS "Sharps" clone reproduction brass buttplate and barel band, bu ti have not seen any for years.

Pedersoi makes one though, which is a possible source for the brass buttplate and barel band, but I do not know whether they are brass or brass plated steel (most likely as the Italains do sundry platings quite often to cut production costs).

But then you have size an dfitting issues.

IMHO, your best and most "economical" route is to have the steel NM1859 repro buttplate "patchbox," and barerl band brass plated by a plating shop.

Plating is good enough for the Italians, but heavy used items will wear through thin plating at points of maximum wear which ultimately looks bogus. I do not know much of anything about plating or whether there are options for the thickness of the plating applied or not.

Thanks Curt! I was looking through the rifle shop catalog and didnt see it. Im thinking another option would be to have a local foundry cast me the parts. I also have a friend who does investment casting for a living. I did not want to have to go that route but alas i think it might be the option. I for sure will do a cost comparison plating vs. non. I used to do propeller repair for a living and have had many dealings with the foundry that im thinking of using.

Sorry, I knew they had brass parts for the slant breech as I am helping a friend with a project.
