  • Best repro Cavalry saber

Hello All, I am wanting to purchase a reproduction Nashville Plow Works cavalry saber. Have any of you acquired one of these and have some advice and who are some sources?

    Eric,

I can't speak to the Nashville Plow Works sabre, having never seen one. I can tell you though that the best repro CW sabres I have seen thus far are made by a fellow named Gary Beauregaurd (sp?) in New Jersey.

I have a Nashville Plow Works sabre that I ordered online (someplace) 10 years or so ago. Do not remember the maker or where I bought it. It's a pretty good repo. I know, this response is absolutely no help to you!

I second Tom's recommendation above. Gary B. is great to deal with and his reproduction sabers are the best that we have seen in a long time. I personally have his light "1860" cavalry saber and the details are unmatched. He should be getting some heavy "1840" cavalry sabers and 1833 Dragoon sabers in stock in a month or so.

          Eric,

As I had mentioned to you in a p.m., I purchased a NPW sabre from Dixie Gun works several years ago. Quality is not bad but not certain if they still offer one. Remember, however that it is a specialized piece and not a good fit for every sabre need. If you need one to cover a lot of ground with then the 1840 listed above might be a better fit.

          thx,

            Eric,

I also use a Gary Beauregard USSU (US Sword and Uniform) model 1840. It's a little blade-heavy compared with an original, but the details are better than any other repro. You could also consider one of his N. Starr model 1812 sabers as an off-the-mantel Confederate blade. It's a very handsome, no-nonsense sword. Stuart Lilie uses one in his Confederate impression.
