  • Footman loops in the west

Are there surviving examples, or descriptions of western Mclellans with footman loops driven into the pommel as was the practice in the east? I've seen them driven in along the quarter straps, but don't recall seeing them in the pommel proper, 01in any western macs.
    Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Greg Tucker

I assume you are talking about CS?

Yes, that would have been very common on an arsenal or contract made saddle. Simply blacksmith made and useful it would be considered the norm but I would not go as far as pervasive.
