  • Rebel cavalry at ITW

I thought I would post something I said to Coley Adair in a phone conversation we had the other night. The Critters at "Into the Wilderness" looked like the meanest, dirtiest, nastiest bunch of fellers you could imagine: in other words, every inch what I would expect CS cavalry to look like in 1864. Not a single new item to be seen, everything patched together and well-aged like they'd been in the saddle for three years.

Bravo, gentlemen. A fine impression, and one Coley tells me is backed up with ample research at the Atlanta History Center. As y'all filed past us during a stand-down it was like going back in time for a moment. I have an ancestor in the 9th VA Cavalry, so maybe that's what Walter Frank Chapman looked like. Gave me goose bumps.

They certainly lived up to their reputation from our point-of-view. We stomped our foot at them to say "go on!" and they turned around and bit us like a mean dog.

That appearance is backed up with skill.
