  • Cavalry Core Group - Monocacy Film

    Dear Colleagues,
Kevin Hershberger (Wicked Spring) is directing a new film on the Battle of Monocacy, "No Retreat from Destiny: The Battle that Rescued Washington". This will be a high quality docu-drama along the lines of "Band of Brothers", written by Kevin & John Pagano. I'm one of the producers through my involvement with Historical Entertainment LLC.

We are filming at the Monocacy 140th reenactment, "To the Gates of Washington" in Boonsboro, MD (July 16-18) and will also be filming at the event site on the 14th-15th and 19th.

We need approximately 10 guys for the cavalry core group.
This is PAID work at levels commensurate with other film work.

Dual impressions would be extremely helpful but as this is late War (July '64) Macs are fine for Confederate as well as Union, so you don't need two completely different sets of tack. If you don't have appropriate uniforms for late War Federal and ANV (RD type III and Tait type jackets) we can provide authentic wardrobe for either side if needed. (I'm doing wardrobe and we've got lots of great people helping including Chris Daley and Jim Warehime)

As an independent, self-financing film, pay will be deferred until we've raised the full film budget either from investors or from DVD pre-sales. However, if guys are coming a long way and have horse trailering expenses, we can potentially work something out on a case by case basis. We've already raised 60% of the budget and are optimistic that the film will be fully funded by the targeted premiere date of Remembrance Day 2004, so it's not a case of deferring pay TOO much.

The aim is to produce a top quality film that shows the importance of this little understood or appreciated battle in the context of what was going on in Richmond and Washington at the time. Authenticity will be a major priority - and if you've seen or participated in the filming of Wicked Spring, you know that Kevin's serious about getting it right.

Ideally, we'd like the cavalry core group troopers to look like they're in the 18-45 age group (age limits for the draft at this stage of the War), with as many younger guys as possible. However, recognizing that there are not nearly as many younger guys in the cavalry hobby as we'd like there to be, many middle aged guys a bit older than this range would could "pass" if they were plausibly youngish looking and slim and had good impressions.

If you are interested in participating, contact Mike Brown (use my name if you don't know him) at 770-289-1758 or 770-888-4502. His email address is Meb1862@aol.com. Copy me in at ms4tune@aol.com if you email him. Mike can fill you in on pay and all details for the cavalry core group.
