Gentlemen,
I'm planning Pamplin Historical Park's Civil War Weekend program on June 22-24, 2007 and would like to invite a group of authentic cavalrymen (mounted) to conduct a demontration of cavalry tactics, either as part of a tactical program or on its own. Pamplin Historical Park is located near Petersburg, Virginia, preserves the site two major Civil War battles, is listed as a National Historic Landmark, and is home to the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier.
Last year we hosted members from a number of living history organizations. Here's what a few participants said about the event...
"Let me thank you for making a wonderful weekend for us re-enactors. There was a time when most events were like yours (no cost to us, a meal provided), but they have disappeared as event organizers realized they could actually charge us to come. Everyone I spoke with really appreciated all your hospitality." John Puskar, 56th Pennsylvania Infantry
"What a great weekend! I am impressed with what y'all have done to bring to the public the exciting history of the War and the great exhibits and activities you have created to help them understand it." Scott Dailey, Captain, Signal Corps of The James, Army of Northern Virginia
"Please count us in for next year! As had been my experience there at Pamplin Park with the other programs that I've participated in, all of you were outstanding hosts. A great deal of gratitude goes to you for putting on such a terrific program." Bob Crickenberger, 15th New Jersey Infantry
In 2006 we offered tactical demonstrations, a coehorn mortar competition, brought in a full-scale replica of the H.L. Hunley, and were entertained by The 2nd South Carolina String Band, an authentic 19th-century Medicine Show, and the fifes and drums of Williamsburg Field Musick.
Please contact me via this site or directly (atalkov@pamplinpark.org) if you and your group are interested in participating.
Hoping you'll join us in 2007 for what we hope will be a grand event!
Warmest regards,
Andrew H. Talkov
