  • Proper Cavalry Leathers

I would greatly appreciate your views as I'm looking to switch to cavalry from infantry impression. I need to know what would acceptable leathers for cavalry. The impression I'm seeking is Missouri CSA. (My ancestor was under Gen. Marmaduke and Col. Jeffers from Southeast Missouri. He was 2nd Lt of the 8th MO Cav. Co. G)

What would you recommend as proper cap and cartridge boxes?

By the way, I own a Enfield and it appears from research that it was very common especially in the Trans-Mississippi Theatre.

I would check returns and inspections, if you're able to find them. But very likely the same things you used for infantry will work for cav, as often they were mtd rifles more than anything.

Perhaps no leathers at all? There is a cool canvas cartridge box at the museum at Wilson's Creek. I expect the pickings were slim in that part of the world... Mybe carry rounds in packages in your pockets?

Have any pics of the Wilson Creek canvas box? I am attempting to reproduce some Columbus Arsenal stuff, and need all the help I can get!

        The Mad MIck!

PS is it an infantry or cavalry box?

It was an "infantry" box, but I can not find the picture, but there are some members here that live near there and perhaps they can help...
