  • Confederate Trans-Mississippi Artillery

I know Confederate Artillery was generally very pore in the Trans-Miss. Theater. However, does anyone know exact stactistics on amount and types were used. Also any reference books would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Garrett,

I am at the Hill College research center regularly (I do volunteer work there and at the Texas Civil War Museum) and I will do some checking for you. They do have all the capsule unit histories including all the Artillery units by state. As for Texas, the only Texas battery seeing action east of the Miss was the Good-Douglas (if my memory serves me right). There are many out of print books as well as files left by researchers on various units. My next trip there will be next week and I will see what I can round up. Of particuliar interest has always been the "Valverde Battery" and the guns that Dowling had to use at Sabine Pass. Mike Powell of Houston and Terry Waxham of Shreveport or the authorities on Trans-Miss guns in the Red River campaign.
