I'm currently looking for a picture of a lance truck. I'm thinking uhlan regiments must have used them for when they were fighting dismounted. This means I might find one in a history of Rush's Lancers. Unless, of course, their dismounted drill fell back on Macedonian practice. But perhaps this belongs in the cavalry discussion. RJ?

I used to sell battery boxes for a living....if you recognize Vynckier, bollard, NEMA 3R then you're on the right track. If the original question wasn't about telegraphic equipment (a 'battery' box) then I'll eat a bugle (surpisingly tasty corn chips).

Vietnamese 'ladies' used to yell out "you numbah wan GI, me love uhlan time"....I thought this came from a WWI scenario impressian....

I have a couple of thoughts and questions on this discussion. The term battery box has been use a couple of times, what exactly are you talking about. I have an idea but want to be clear. ...Do you mean the battery's wagon as in army baggage wagon attached to the battery or the Battery Wagon. If you mean the weapons were in the Battery Wagon, I am not to sure that I would agree with that...This is a rolling repair shop for the battery. Lots of tools packed into that wagon and its limber chest. The limber chest for the wagon and field forge do not have the same interior as for a gun... I have seen one Battery Wagon that was loaded with most of the tools and gear that the manual states should be there... Bill Thomas Driver Lazarus Battery

No, Infantry becomes Uhlan's after being destroyed in a box...as in "I saw uhlan down after the canister ripped through your regimental box"

For what it is worth. A limber is a limber. The box on the limber changes per it's application. A Battery wagon limber can pull a traveling forge or a caisson or a cannon. The limber should be thought of as the "truck" that you see on the road today, with the trailers being interchangeable.
