Re: Stuarts Artillery
For more detailed accounts read "Galloping Thunder" by Robert Trout a blanket answer would probably be most correctly stated as 'all kinds' however extant pictures Ive seen do seem to show branch trim on a lot of the uniforms,( altho what color is of course hard to tell ) If I recall the book also notes trims in some letters..Its a good resource made up mostly of letters and diarys ectGary Mitchell

Re: Stuarts Artillery
Hi Craig,
there is some pretty good evidence that red trim was encountered in Stuart's artillery complement. There is a kepi in existence and I quote from this source:-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The Columbia SC Confederate Relic Room has on display a kepi worn by
Private Daniel Morgan of Hart's Battery, a South Carolina horse
artillery unit attached to Stuart's ANV cavalry corps. According
to Relic Room Curator John Bigham, Private Morgan, of Orangeburg
was killed in action on the Boynton Plank Road in Virginia on October
27, 1864., Miss Kate Morgan, of Springfield, SC, donated the kepi in
1925. We can't be sure, but most
believe the cap was produced at the Richmond clothing depot."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The kepi has a cadet grey band and top, but the rest of the cap (majority) is bright red. It can be seen in Echoes of Glory (p.162). AC Approved vendor Greg Starbuck makes an exceptional copy of this cap incidentally.
