  • Large Tarpaulin Questions Artillery

Looking for Government specifications for making a Large Tarpaulin as issued to Artillery. I know the size is 12" by 15". I'm looking for info on number and width of panels, size of tabling (or edge hem), number and placement of grommets, were the hand sewn grommets secured with iron or brass rings, were there corner reinforcements? There is nothing in any of the Artillery manuals or Ordnance Manuals. Is there anything in the quartermaster manual?

Dave, I have read every post in this section. There are a couple mentions but no specific details other than size.

For anybody interested. I made one last year. 12' by 15' 6 panels of 24 oz. NO. 4 canvas. Hand stitched double seams with handsewn grommets spaced around. The weight fell right into ordnance standards.Click image for larger version

Nice job. I know from experience they aren't fun to make. How's your fingers feeling right now?

Hey David beautiful job, what is the width of your seams between the panels and the edge seams?
