Wanted to share a few videos from the team at Shiloh two weeks ago. The event was great for ironing a few pieces of living off the saddle with a team when using Grimsleys. Because of the fact that Grimsleys don't have coat straps or footman loops they have limited options for attaching bedrolls to the saddle. One method was to attach them to the valise via the valise straps. The second method which I have noticed in period photos is using the trussing straps on the hames for attaching the bedroll. The trussing strap was meant for trussing up the traces and keeping them out of the dirt while getting ready to hitch to the limber. As we have found simply throwing the traces over the horses back fits that bill however. Below you can see an original image of trussing straps being used for the bedroll compared to my own image of its use.
The videos are the team going up a fairly steep hill, limbering up, and forward by section.
