Re: 150th Battle of Shiloh - Mounted Cavalry Adjunct!

    All,

I wanted to bump this up again as we are drawing closer to the Shiloh event. While I would like to ask all of you that are interested to re-read the contents of this thread, I especially want to call your attention to the importance of sending your email registration to Keith Willingham stating your intentions to make this ride. Keith is coordinating this portion and is asking for no money whatsoever, but he is strict in his stance that if you plan to ride, you must email him! He will send out authenticity guidelines and other pertinent information that you will need on where and when to stage, etc. and if you are not on that list, you aren't going!! He sent out a broadcast today and I am saying this as clearly as I can, that you must email Keith and give your name, address and intention of making the ride. Keith's address is:

    Unclekeith16@aol.com

Please take care of this as soon as you can as I don't want someone to make plans and spend money to come only to find out that they will not be able to participate. :cry_smile

    regards,

Re: 150th Battle of Shiloh - Mounted Cavalry Adjunct!

      O.K. men...........

We are about one month out from the 150th Shiloh and the unique activities that we have been discussing for months. At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I really think this even has the setting and possibility of being the "crown jewel" of the sesquicentennial events. There are just so many things that have never before been done or rarely been done. Given that, I sure hope that you have all done everything that you need to do to attend this event and the authentic adjunct that we are preparing.

I am not going to repeat the oft repeated information of this whole thread but ask that you look through it to make certain that you have emailed Keith Willingham for registration for the Corinth/Shiloh ride and that you have registered for the other portion of the event with the BGA so we can escort the men of the 15th Iowa coming off of the paddleboat.

I also hope that you are conditioning both you and your mount for all of the riding. There will be a lot. I want to also cover some important items and ask that you print these out or whatever you need to do to etch them on your brain. The better prepared you all are, the better time we will all have!

      In no particular order:

      * Make sure that you are registered for both the ride and the event by using the info posted repeatedly earlier in this thread.

      * You will first come (Wed afternoon/evening) to the Corinth Interpretive Center to unload and be escorted to the parking area. For those using GPS the address for the Center is: 501 W. Linden St., Corinth, MS. 38834

      * Make sure that your horses are well-shod (discussed earlier) and that you have current coggins and if coming from out of state, Health Certificates.

      * Bring one or two extra bales of hay. Hay will be provided, but there are always things that can happen at the large events. Also, bring grain in small sacks if needed. Can be carried on mount.

      * You will not be issued rations! Pack what you need for Wed night, Thursday and Fri a.m. At that time we will return to the parking area and you can reload what you need. I strongly suggest that you think your way through each “re-load” so that you will not have to spend valuable time “grocery shopping in the nose of your trailer.”

      * Each set of fours will need to have at least 25 ft of picket rope. I suggest all who can to carry a section.

There will be more, and it will be sent out as determined, but please take action to prepare now! If you have any question on any of this, please contact me by p.m. or email (choatecav@aol.com).

      thank you,
      Mark
