    A/C Cavalry Forum
    “CAMP OF INSTRUCTION”

    Recruit Development Program

    * To begin September 1st, 2011. For “new” A/C cavalry reenactor recruits. All current A/C members in good standing as of this date are automatically “grandfathered as is”.

    Purpose:
    1) To improve the quality of discussion and interaction on the Cav forum which will accelerate the growth and understanding of Civil War period cavalry.
    2) To continually strive to improve the authentic quality of the overall mounted reenactor impression in the field nationwide.
    3) To attract and develop new “authentic reenactor” cavalryman to the hobby and members to the A/C Cavalry Forums.

    Who will participate:
    A) Recruit: New cavalry “reenactors” who join the A/C and wish to post as a “cavalryman” on the Cavalry Forum MUST voluntarily go through this “Camp Of Instruction”. As a pre-requisite, Recruits are asked to submit their names to the Cavalry Moderators for assignment to a “Mentor”. Mods: Ken R Knopp krk1865@bellsouth.net or Mark Choate at choatecav@aol.com
Note: The above is for “reenactor” Cavalryman ONLY. Non-reenactors or any others desiring membership (with all rights and privileges) can still join the AC under existing recruit guidelines.

    B) “Cavalryman”: Those “reenactors” (A/C members in good standing grand-fathered as of Sept. 1, 2011) or, graduated through the Recruit Developement Program process and earned the title of “Cavalryman”. This title can be used on their avatar.

    C) A/C Mentor Cavalryman: 1. Current veteran members who have proven themselves to have a solid understanding of accurate history, equipment, tack, and horsemanship and are also longstanding veterans of the demands of recreating the cavalryman of the War Between the States at reenactments, living histories, etc.
    2. Have the willful and expressed desire to mentor recruits in the Camp of Instruction Program. This “A/C Mentor Cavalryman” title can also be used on member avatars.

    D) Monitoring of the Recruit Development Program and the selection of the Mentors will be chosen at the sole discretion of the cavalry forum moderators with input or guidance from A/C programmers Paul, Matt or Justin as they deem necessary. Cavalryman desiring to be Mentors are asked to submit their names to the Cavalry Moderators.

    E) Cavalry Moderators: Ken R Knopp krk1865@bellsouth.net or Mark Choate at choatecav@aol.com

CAVALRY CAMP OF INSTRUCTION RECRUIT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM:

A new reeanctor to the A/C Cavalry forum wishing to participate in this process to earn the title of “Cavalryman” would be assigned a “Mentor”. One of the first actions would be the submission of a photo or, examination of the recruits' “kit” by the mentor. The Mentor will advise the mentee as to the areas of needed improvement and suggest sources or methods to acquire items needed. The Mentor would serve as a sounding board for all initial posts/questions to the A/C Cavalry Discussion Sub-Forum. The Recruit would be free to post directly to the “Cavalry Camp of Instruction Sub-Forum”however, all posts MUST FIRST be filtered through the mentor before posting.

If, at all possible, the Recruit will need to attend at least one event with the Mentor for one-on-one, hands on guidance. Once the Mentor feels that the Recruit has been brought to a level of authenticity where he can enjoy a positive participation on the overall A/C forum and A/C events, the Recruit will be asked to submit an “after” photo (or a physical examination) to both the Mentor as well as the Cav Forum Moderators where it will “collectively” be determined if he is ready to receive the title of “Cavalryman” and to fully participate on the forum and at A/C Cavalry events.

    regards,
    M. Choate & K. Knopp
