I found this while researching other subjects and thought maybe someone might be able to use the information.
Army Contracts, Detroit Daily Tribune, October 28 1861. P. 1, col. 5. “Our enterprising fellow citizen Cullen Brown has just filled a contract of 1000 full cavalry equipments for Missouri. He has recently taken the contract to furnish similar equipment for Kelloggs’ 1st Cavalry regiment.”
The Detroit City Directory and Gazetteer lists Cullen Brown, 203 Jefferson Avenue, Detroit, Mi. (making saddles and cavalry equipment). This is the same firm who had during the 1840-50 made Michigan State buttons.
