150th Battle of Shiloh - Mounted Cavalry Adjunct! AFTER ACTION REPORT
Re: 150th Battle of Shiloh - Mounted Cavalry Adjunct! AFTER ACTION REPORT
Andrew, John, Casey and Richard,
As I was riding just in front of you and had to take my leave prematurely for a staff assignment, I would be honored to anchor the Florida Cracker protion of yor mess ANY DAY!!
I agree that we will probably never have a true anachronism-free 100% authentic experience. But I do enjoy those small windows that we get an occasional glimpse of. The one that comes to my mind was at the Hornet's nest when every gun (1200-1800 on both sides) were firing a constant roar echoing in the woods. You could not hear yourself think much less carry on a conversation with someone right next to you. I closed my eyes and imagined what is was like to be involved in that hailstorm of bullets. I will also be able to say that my horse grazed in the wheat field at Shiloh and that I bled in that same field as A.S. Johnston compliments of a broken girth that sent my fists flying into my mouth while trying to tighten it! I spit blood for 20 minutes before it finally stopped. I thought I had bitten through my lower lip and that would be the end of my weekend but I survived!
Thank you everyone fron the 7th Tn. Give me another 13 months and 11 days and I will be there with you full time. Some of you will know what that means!
Thanks you all for a great weekend!
