  • Anyone carry a English saber?

    Gents,

I was just curious to see if any of you carried a repop English saber on the field. I think we should see more of these in the C.S. ranks....

He's a big boy and can speak for himself, but doesn't Lee White carry one for CS officer?

I carry a repro 1853 "enfield" cavalry saber. Not a perfect repro but decent. I am working with maker on improved version

I carry an original 1853 saber. It is a beautiful weapon.

I carry a repro 1853 "Enfield" cavalry saber. It is really heavy and so is the scabbard.

For Chris Wilson, I would be interested to know if you get an improved repro and like to see photos.

I am not totally sure of the maker/importers dedication but i have sent him tons of photos and measurements of an original detailing the improvements it needs and he says he will incorporate them. We shall see.

Chris, who is offering these 1853 Dragoon Sabers?? I did a quick google search and did not see any repos pop up on the normal sutlery sites.

Just bought a beautiful original from Coley Adair about three months ago. Looking to use it at certain events.

                regards,

World wide swords and Discriminating General. They are pretty much identical.
WWS is working on improvements if it ever happens. Problems are blade is 2" short, basket doesn't have curve of original, handle isn't as wide, but has good balance and weight

Maybe if we get enough people contacting World Wide Swords about their interest in getting the "improved version" of their 1853 Enfield Saber repro, then maybe they will move quicker in getting it done and available. I know I am interested in one. Just a thought...

                          Christopher,
I just emailed them (www.worldwideswords.net) to let them know if they had a new "improved" replica of their 1853 Enfield saber in the works, that I would be interested. Hopefully enough people do the same to get them to make them sooner rather than later.

Here is an interesting 1853 on auctionl

This makes it fairly obvious that both repros out there are based on this version made for Indian troops. note it is both lighter and shorter which the repros reflect and as they are made in India it would stand to reason they would base it on an "original" that they have in hand. The NSBDA stamp is telling

That said, WWS is currently working on their improved version and I sent this link to them to hopefully point out errors
