  • Help needed rigging a surcingle as a breast collar.

I have read many accounts of troopers rigging their surcingles as breast collars. Has anyone seen an original or image? How were they mounted? How well did they actually fit? I really want to use this in my impression if I can find the correct method. I have not seen it done in living history. It will be on a Ranger saddle.

    Thank you very much,

I wish I could see this a little better.

Those pictures are about as good as it gets . Good searching . Just try it, play around and readjust. I don't think it is in the manual.
      Good luck

Take the surcingle and put it under the front quarter straps around the pommel and neck of the horse. That's it.

Play around with it, and you'll find what works for you and your horse. When I do it, I simply run it through one side of the pommel (not under the quarter straps as Jan suggests) and around the horses' chest. I recommend placing the buckle on the near side so that you can get at it easy.
