Federal Smith Carbine sling type and commonality confirmation help needed.

Can anyone confirm if the Smith Carbine with the swivel type sling was commonly carried by Federal cavalry? I am going to purchase one if I can confirm that this was common, but I have yet to confirmed how common it was compared to the snap clip carbine sling. I am speaking more specifically for a Trans-Mississippi theatre impression or at least Western Theatre. Any help would be greatly appriciated. I have also thought about looking at contacting the Rifle Shoppe to convert it to the ring type.
