Nice Texas Saddle Picture

This is a good example of a nice Texas saddle, you'll notice the 3/4 rigging placement, fancy brass dome tacks, round under skirts and narrow stirrup leathers with sweat leathers below the rigging rings. I think this saddle would fit a lot of the horses that you Tennessee fells ride.

O.K......we don't see a post from John for months and when he returns, what does he bring??? A Moose wearing a saddle!

You "Far Flungers" are too much!! :confused_

By the way, what kind of bit do you reckon would work best with this thing?? Snaffle? Pelham? Trooper? Dragoon? High port or low??? We might as well clear it all up!

Trained properly starting with the Jauquima or hackamore for softness the moose could eventually be moved to the two reign and finished in the freno or Spanish spade bit. However in times of war it might be more practical to use a snaffle or even a regular cavalry curb bit to hastily "break" the moose.

Moose would be especially useful in swampy areas of the south like the bayous of the Red River. Moose are most useful to sharpshooter battalions because of the strategically placed gun rests on their heads aka, antlers.

Hey John,

While we are on the subject (and since you brought it up) I could not help but post this photo. He has the right "look" with the scrubby beard and the "Tex-Mex" thing going for him. While one might find issue with his "Paint" Indian pony, his saddle, bit and the rest of his kit....I do kinda like his saddle bags. Any truth to the rumor he is what you guys see down there as a "typical" Texas Confederate reenactor? Just askin....

This photo is what was know as the "Texas Dog Solgier" Their reputation was for monkeying around and throwing wrenches. They were strictly for fighting in warmer climates as in cold weather theirs balls would freeze off unless they were issued wool pants and drawers. They were also known as mean hand to hand fighters , and God help you if you ever got one on your back! I do like tacos I don't think they came around until 1863 and that was in a small village in rural Mexico, nowhere near the front lines of the fighting at the time.
