  • The Egyptian Homeguard

Hey Guys, I know I have been really quiet for several months (okay, I’ve been skulking) so I thought I’d just be square and not leave you all wondering. Reenacting the Civil War has lost a bit of its luster for me and although I’m not selling off my gear (yet), I’m going to consider myself “retired” from the Civil War. I’ve done infantry and courier over the last 20 years and have ridden with several of you. I know several others from across the field too. My interests are taking me a different direction at this time. I'll poke in here time to time to see what's going on... It’s been a good time and a good ride. Take care out there and be safe. Z

Mark, I wasn't sure where to put this on the Cav. Forum, so I stuck it here...

    Zack,
You are going to miss out on the rest of the 150th cycle. I understand your position. I think most of us are "retired" living historians due to the infrequency of good quality events. Keep yourself in the loop. Good troops are too hard to come by.
My 2 cents (secesh currency, that is)

      Zack,

I know that you have been considering this for a while and while I understand it, I am also saddened to read it. Somehow reading it makes it seem more "official". You are a quality trooper and more importantly a quality person. I do hope that you hang onto enough stuff so that you can reappear from time to time on the field. In fact, I secretly hoped you would be making an appearance at Perryville this weekend, but alas.

Take care of yourself and come back to visit..........both here and on the field!!

      regards,

        ZZ --

So sorry to see you go! As I type this, I'm remembering all the events and places where I've run into you over the past 12-15 years. Alas, I'm not too far behind you :-( I've quit the hobby a few times already, but always kept enough gear for "one more event." Being honest, I'm well beyond the age and physical shape of the average trooper, and have existed the last few years by doing an officer impression. Other than a few local LHs, I think my days of long horse haulin' are mostly over.

Life changes and takes us in different directions.

Best of luck to you and don't be a stranger!
