As many of you may have heard, the NPS has cancelled all park programming and activities until May 9th. At that time, they will evaluate the current impact of the Covid-19 virus. Unfortunately, this effects “Lightning at the Furnace.” After extensive correspondence with the park staff and considering the current trends of event cancellations, we decided to reschedule “Lightning at the Furnace” to the anniversary weekend of May 2021. First and foremost, we apologize to those who purchased plane tickets from across the country. We truly wish there was a way we can make this up to you! We certainly hope that you will consider registering again for the rescheduled “Lightning at the Furnace” and we will do all that we can to make the trip worth your consideration.
While it is unfortunate, we need to reschedule this to early May 2021. There are, however, at least a few benefits to rescheduling. To begin with, we will be able to improve the event further for you guys, adding even more details to the experience to make it that much better. Secondly, the park logistics for next year should allow us to raise the cap on participants. Rest assured we are still going forward with this project!
All of your registrations will be refunded in the meantime; however, you will be kept on the list as a registered participant! The rescheduled event will not have a preservation registration fee, although a donation to the CVBT will be strongly encouraged. In preparation for this event we had went out and purchased the necessary amount of salt pork for rations. Of the $7 ration fee charged, roughly $3 a man was spent on the salt pork. Your refund will include $50 preservation donation and $4 left over from the rations. The $3 spent on the pork will be worked into the purchasing of rations for the rescheduled 2021 event and, for those that choose to register again for next year, your registration fee will be discounted to account for those three dollars. Look for the refunds in the next 2-3 days! We apologize for this inconvenience, and hope that you all can understand the frustration in dealing with such a rapid change in events!
While the hobby is taking a beating in 2020 so far, all we can do is absorb the blows! This only means that 2021 will be loaded with good events! Keep “Lightning at the Furnace” 2021 – April 30-May 2 on your calendars! Stay tuned for updates and more research related material over the next few months.
Thank you for your support and we’ll see you in the field very soon!
