1st Section and the Liberty Rifles are excited to announce our next joint venture, WE SOON GOT PROUD.
Following a number of full scale immersive regimental events such as Prelude to Invasion, Warlike Along the Rapidan, and Silent Machines, this event will continue in that vein, and offer a number of firsts at this scale for the authentic community.
In early 1864, the Army of Tennessee artillery, camped near Dalton, Georgia and wrecked after the previous campaign, was reequipped, reorganized, and retrained. We will portray a battalion of light artillery—the artillery equivalent of an infantry regiment—as it tested its guns with live ammunition at long range and drilled drivers, cannoneers, and new draft animals on field maneuvers.
Many have asked how they can get involved with 1st Section and learn how to do artillery right. Here’s that opportunity.
Participants will need little more than a typical AoT infantry kit minus the weapon and accoutrements. Each will get to see how artillery companies and battalions operated on a day to day basis, and each will witness the deadly effectiveness of Civil War cannons using properly recreated ammunition down to the sabots and flannel bags. Horsemen who want to study artillery and quality officers and NCOs in the community who want to improve their riding over the next year and a half are welcome.
