"Call for clerks and cooks....."
Everybody in every army in history has had somebody to report to and receive orders from. The forces participating in “Into the Wilderness” (“Recon 3”) are no exception. Tim O’Neill has asked me to assemble a functioning staff to represent a Divisional HQ for the Federal side of ITW.
What we need are people willing to support the learning focus of the exercise by applying themselves to the unglamorous but vital functions of a field staff. In the main, this means keeping track of communications, and relaying messages. Good clerks and intelligent junior staff officers are vital folks, who’s role in the management of armies and battles often gets short shrift in “reenactments.” (Yet another reason why “Recon” events are not advertised as reenactments…’cause they’re not.)
Since the HQ staff will have real work to do, and precious little time to do it, it would be very helpful to have a cook or two. Here’s the deal for cooks: you get in for free. That is, your registration will be covered.
We are also “in the market” for HQ guards. This is an opportunity for a company of Zouaves, Cavalry “awaiting remounts” etc. Be prepared for a 24 hr. real time exercise with security responsibilities. Please note: uniform and decorum requirements will not be lessened for those who participate as HQ guards.
Speaking of staff, we have a Topographic Engineer lined up. If you want to work with him, contact me at the address below and I will put you in touch.
If you feel you can make a contribution in some area that I have not mentioned here, please feel free to contact me.
Please direct all inquires for Federal Div. HQ staff and operations to me at:
kkair@starpower.net
If you are interested in supporting the CS Div. HQ, I will be happy to refer you.
