If there was ever a man who deserves some kind of award for Duty Above and Beyond the Call as a living historian, it is Danny McCoslin, the man who first envisioned and then organized the Mansfield Preservation March. At the risk of embarrassing he and wife Erica (they will read this for the first time here) I would like to publicly thank both of them for making Mansfield a reality, despite life changes and difficulties that would make most folks bail.
In the past 2 months:
1. Danny lost his job
2. Erica is newly pregnant
3. Had to sell their house and move across Texas, forcing Erica to give up her job as well.
4. Spent hundreds of $ of their own money helping put this together and put 6000 miles on the truck just driving over to Mansfield and back.
5. Quickly reorganized the battalion when a group of reenactors pulled out. We are now much stronger than before, with 75 of the best TMD and western living historians (including 5 Brits!) commanded by Frank Aufmuth, all united in a common cause in one authentic battalion.
oh yeah...
6. Danny just found a new job - in Iraq. He leaves for a year 2 weeks from now...with very little chance to see the birth of his unborn child but an excellent chance to be shot at...
If you see him at the event, shake his hand. Needless to say, his leadership and dogged determination has inspired the rest of us greatly.
Sorry Pig Pen, I thought folks ought to know what Texans can do :)
