  • Gentlemen of the South! A Call To Arms!

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Per the request of my Company Commander, I have been requested as 1st Sgt.,
to put forth the following in his temporary absence.

Our CS company is close to full capacity based upon registrations and
commitments; however, we do have a few remaining open spots for the right
men. This company has been successful, privately and internally recruiting
thus far, in an effort to keep various groups together and to attract the
ideal candidates for the ideal period experience. We realize the holidays
are over and the 2007 season is officially here. There may be some of you
out there, ready to go with things looking clearer for you or wanting to
break in the new gear you got for Christmas. If there are any yet
unregistered or unassigned men out there who meet the below
qualifications, please PM me so I or the captain may call you and chat with
you further about the opportunities and possible openings. We are
uncertain as to the exact amount of openings we have and hope to iron that
out soon as we follow up with some folks. When we know for sure we are
full, we will update this thread accordingly. In other words if this
sounds like you, don't assume we're full based on time-passed or any number of posts from folks saying they PM'd and such.

    The ideal soldiers will.....

    1. Have a great attitude. No, complainers please.....unless it is a
    period complaint.

    2. Meet the generous impression guidelines. If you are uncertain or have
questions about any of those, please inquire. We are happy to help.

    3. Have the ability and desire to remain in first person/immersion for the
weekend. We strongly applaud the organizer's encouragement/expectation of
this aspect and we feel very strongly about this. This is one of the main
reasons we raised this company internally and it is a major expectation at
all levels and ranks. We don't expect folks to know all the period
politics, events, or have to force first person for the sake of first
person, however we do expect no modern subject talk or references that will
ruin the moment for others by drawing their attention away from a period
mindset. (i.e. sports, current events, Simpson's, movies, who is making
the best cartridge box, farbs, someone else's kit, what future events
you're going to attend, etc. We can discuss all this before we go live and
then on Sunday.) Silence is also of course immersive. Basically, just
    maintain a 'period mindset.'

    4. Good conditioning by the time of the event; which means getting in good
shape and having your feet seasoned to a lot of walking in period footwear.
You also may be asked at times to run with all of your kit/gear. There is
still time to get in shape, but we are looking for those who are dependable
and can commit to this. We aren't asking you to be a long distance runner,
    but sure you understand.

    5. Understand we, and every man in this company, are looking for as rich a
period experience as possible; and will do all each can to provide that
experience for you, everyone else in the company and those we interact with
outside the company. This company is, and will be a band of brothers. We
aren't perfect, and don't claim to be. But we have committed to giving
the best effort and preparation to each man as possible.

We will be very happy to provide more information to those hard-chargers,
we have just described. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Very Best Regards

Also, you gotta share a chaw with ole Lawson at some point at the event. I hope we can keep this company full of like minded individuals. If the rest turn out to be like us in the company now, you will not have a better time with anyone! Plus, we can sing and dance!

      Mr. Lawson-

Please don't dance. You'll scare off the recruits.....

Plus, you have the gracefullness of an Ox in a mudslide.

Fellers, if you end up enlisting with us, we promise we'll do everything we can to keep you from such an inhumane trauma.

Honestly Jay I would love to go but Henry Ford seems to think I cannot have those days off. I will try and force the issue if I can... Honestly there is nothing like serving under Marse Aufmuth. I feel so sorry for those blue bellies, they are in for such a whippin, that they will never forget.

Glad to have you on board, Pard. Happy to have another good campaigner.

And way to persevere! It's that kind of "roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get it done" attitude we want in this company.

            Thanks for the PM.

              Jay,

Sending off my registration first thing tomorrow! I look forward to falling in with your company; I have no doubt that Banks' Grand Retreat will be the highlight of events I've attended in a while.

Brian- Very happy to have you on board, thanks for PM'ing.

I couldn't agree with you more. I wish all campaign events were put together on this scale, dedication/expectation to "immersive conduct and leadership", and all the planning. I am certain there are going to be a lot of period aspects which will be surprises that are in store for us.

Further, I firmly believe these 'back to the basics', "pack just what you need to live" and get away from the modern creature comforts we have at most events; is what any real campaigner needs to get re-focussed and re-energized. If the Lazy Jacks are flying from that far away, I don't think you can make a bigger statement than that.

We need more of them (campaigner events like this).

Sorry, Mike.... I never replied to your post. I missed it and beg your pardon.

I dont' have an exact figure for you, but these will be coming soon. More importantly, we are very close to full, as are the other CS companies, if I have heard correctly. Which means if you are a CS campaigner, you have very little time left to register and this becomes "one of those events you let get away from you."

More importantly, Mike; if I understand the 'spirit' of your question.......Yes, I do believe we have only a couple spots left.

Re: Gentlemen of the South! A Call To Arms!

                      Jay, et al,

Well, after reading your post, and checking out the BGR web site again, it hit me what a unique event this will be. So I registered online, and PayPal'ed my $ to Fred Baker. Done! I'm in!

Can't wait for this one. I'd be lying if I told you there are no worries whatsoever about my readiness for this event. Mssrs. Baker & Yearby have crafted an event that will challenge all the participants, and I couldn't be more excited. But I could be more fit, so I'm adding my brogans and knapsack to my usual running route. Who cares if I look like an escapee from the home for wayward reenactors. See you boys in March down in the piney woods of NW Louisiana!
