SMALL SKIRMISH (looking to put on a small event)

Howdy yall. I live in a small town by the name of shongaloo. For anyone who knows of this place has an idea of the area. For yall who do not let me says its full of ummmmmm nothing. Well i would really like to put together a small skirmish up here. First off it would not be any big fancy event just a weekend where there are no spectators and i would like to make the event as real as possible. I was one curious how many would even be interested in something like this and two i would like to know any ideas on how to go about making something like this something the guys would remember. Any ideas sugestions anything. I am looking into the spring of next year around march or april. Thanks guys

Ben, do you happen to know "Uncle Tom" Yearby or Fred "Boundless Enthusiasm" Baker? If so, buy a 12 pack of your favorite adult beverage, strap on a Depends, and give them a call at BR-549. If not, I'll leave this thread up for a while for their viewing pleasure, and, hopefully some erudite commentary.

Such an event would fall within the area currently controlled by the Bayou Yeti.

Moving it further north is a problem as one then runs into the Fouke Monster's domain.

Perhaps if I-49 ever connects Texarkana to Shreveport we'd have a hope of staging this thing in proper style in the interstate right-of-way but for now I'm voting to put it on the shelf.

As is the problem now within the hobby there are quite a few small events that take away a few participants here and a few there, thus making all events small by yesterdays standards. Regardless when in the Spring or Fall you'd schedule this the weekend would in all likelyhood compete with another event somewhere and further dilute the numbers.

From my experience of being one of the principals in hosting and event (Camp Moore, 9 years) I can tell you that it may pay to get involved with someone already working an event (not ever enough volunteers for something like this) and learn from them the dynamics of hosting an event, bivouac, or the like. Additionally, this would give you the time it'd take to get the rythum of mainstay events and their dates down as well as become known in the hobby among the crowd you wish to attract.

My two cents worth, and I applaud your zeal.
