Special notices for Marmaduke’s Company F (Federal) Issued 4 Sept

Bring 100 rounds along. 40 in their cartridge box, 20 in on your person and 40 for the ammo box.
We need to furnish 2 axes, 2 shovels and 2 hatchets. All with carrying scabbards or something to sling them with. We will be building a fort and that will take tools. Also each company should furnish a coil of strong rope at least 75-100 feet long.
Please notify Sgt. Andy Ackeret if you can help with one or more of these items.
This campaign will not be a strenuous one as far as marching goes, but pack like it was 1863.
Bring shelter halves with you, we will be using them. Each man should have at least one extra pair of socks, and the personal items that made a soldiers life functional.
We will be having company cook fires and rations will be cooked by details from each company with our commissary Sgt supervising.

We go live on Friday afternoon. We will be in an immersion mode after that. Modern speak if done will have to be done away from others and first person will be respected. There will be no talk of kit, events, football, etc... This is an immersion event and will be so until we leave on Sunday morning. If there is an emergency then that is different. Please make sure that you put all medications and car keys in period containers.

Please bring a letter on period stationary, so mail call can be given out. These will be collected at registration.

Company F is the smallest as of now we would like to have a few more with us. Please ask those you know to attend with you. We are making arrangements for late arrivals to be brought into the event.

With 2 of the 3 cooks now having been appropriately drafted, this is probably an appropriate point in time to mention fires will be at a premium, with our allowance being three and only three for the fort. This allows for one consolidated cookhouse fire trench, one "warm up" fire for the enlisted folks (charge officers twenty-five cents each if they want to warm up their hands on a rainy day), and one fire to be named later. Unless I misjudge Rev. Pompey, wood gathering details will be both necessary and quite active in order to stoke the fires. This doesn't mean a freewill "Burning of Columbia" pyre need be seen reaching to the sky and licking the clouds.

The rations are what they are, and they may prove to be either the highlight of the event, for those who enjoy camp life, or the most base, worst, most pitiful, paltry, excuse laden portion of the event, for those who enjoy making the usual soldier's noise. When a soldier quits complaining, then he is probably dead.

A man with a sharp knife will be laughing at the man trying to cut his meat with a dull riverstone. The man with a 2nd Minn. plate or issue three-piece plate will be ahead of the man with a flat plate wondering what to do with his fine plate of soup so recently spilt down the front of his shirt. That's a hint that some of the concoctions may or may not remove the tin from the inside of the mess cup, and that mixing some of this material with the liquid brown that washes the food down may be a bad idea. Having a fork is good, but having a spoon is better. Bring your spoon.

Those with a chip of soap and a little towel may find a chance to use them.

Pie, the all important ingredient for any event, may or may not be had from an unlikely source, and those happy men with at the ready shinplasters in appropriate denominations may be better fed than those long faced individuals standing there empty handed. It's a heck of a thing to have gone hungry, yet later have to curl up in a dog tent with a pard reeking of the sweet sugary goodness from the crumbs and filling of a half moon peach pie. To wit, Sherman said it best: "War is Hell!"

Plus, we hope the Sergeant Major will assist with a certain medicinal task that will likely not bring great joy to one and all. Considering this is April 1863, you can pretty much guess just what that is.

Okay, looking for one more Iron Chef, and if anyone is allergic to beets, this is a great time to speak up.

There is needed a list of first person names, with modern names would be helpful.

If you check the registered list you will see that First person names were included with the names of those who registered. However if you don't know who's in company F:
