And the line marked in bold would be when you'd set your watch to 11:51 in the period, according to the 1863 almanac).
So setting your modern watch back one hour and three minutes would eliminate the effect of modern time zones and daylight savings time. It would mean that the sun would rise at 5:51 a.m. and set at 5:50 p.m. during the event, based on the naval observatory times above.
The 1863 almanac shows the sun rising at 5:51 a.m. and setting at 5:51 p.m. on Sept. 26 in San Francisco, which should be about the same latitude. Close enough, allowing for the rounding of seconds to minutes.

Pards, I live about 60 miles from the site, trust me, when it comes to weather, expect ANYTHING! Burn your butt off during the day, freeze at night or vise versa. Snow, Humidity, tornados, hurricanes (Ike)...all are possible. Like it was said before, bring your bedroll, some cartridges, a rifle and be prepared for some beautiful countryside, the Ozarks sure are perrrrty (said with a toothless smile).

James,
Looking forward to this one. Hopefully we'll meet on good terms! Rest assured, we'll be pleased to extend all courtesies to those whose actions deserve such kindness.
If not... my aim is still true, and I'll endeavor to bring a quick and merciful end to whomever I have the misfortune of firing upon.
