I had never heard of it either... but my wife (being from the mid-west) finally made it for me. I must admit that it was an aquired taste but this Louisiana boy started to like it.

If you come to Athens, Missouri in August you will have your fill. I think I ate a WHOLE Gooseberry pie last August. Did I mention I got a little sick. But it was worth it.

I still want to know where you catch Rubarb at. I talked to the coonasses further South and they said they're usually running in early Spring, but after that their shells get hard. No body raises em in ponds though.

It comes up in April with May being the best time to eat. Ed Krogh and I will send some your way.

Re: Company E looking for a few Good Men

Yea I went on a lot of snipe hunts when I was in Boy Scouts so many years ago. I think they must be extinct however cause we never caught any. If Ed and Holler's going to send me some Rubarb, I figure I'll make a reaux for it, everyting takes a reaux.

              Looking forward it !

                Dennis,

I'm thinking it is a de'sert....if not I will bring the Tonys, Tobasco, and Zatarains..just in case.

I'm still thinking that you sprinkle sugar on it and dip it in your cafe au lait.

                  Pards,

Mailed my registration packet today! I can't miss the "Event of the Century." From the looks of things, Company E will be a potent mix of mid-western determination and strength with alittle Louisiana spice. Afterall, us Louisiana boys are a mighty tenatous bunch!

If we're talkin pies, I have always enjoyed blueberry.

Tenatous....that is French for "10 of us are a-com'in." See...Wayne is one of our more educated Cajuns.

Do you boil rubarb peeled or still in the shell ?

Based on my memory of the last event it seems strange to hear Picketts Mill and food both mentioned in the same post.
