Re: Company E looking for a few Good Men

Gooseberries and Rhubarb will make the best tart-sweet pies you are likely to taste anywhere. They make good jams and jellies too. My grandma, a Very German lady, used to make the best rhubarb/strawberry pie and gooseberry pie in the world. I cannot think of a better dinner right now than a big pile of boiled crawdads, a debris-biscuit, and a nice slice of rhubarb pie, washed down with a good strong coffee.

One tip: The leaves are poisonous, and the roots are a purgative. Eat only the stalk unless you wish to be very ill, or tied to the toilet, heh.

And lastly, serve the reaux on the side. :wink_smil

A lot of good info on rhubarb:

Sgt Duffer, one never really goes hungry when there are real Louisianaians in the mix ! It'll be hilarious watching all dem fake Louisiana boys keep up the standards of cup cooking. But I guess it'll be no less funny than them watching us try and act like Yankee's. I just need to figure out how to catch Rubarb, do you know ?

They only come out at night, and so you'll need s few guys, a lantern and a large gunny sack. One person has the sack, and the others are "beaters" and beat the bushes to chase the rhubarbs towards the sack man. Its exciting being the sack man, so if you are quick enough on your feet, we'll let you be the first sack man until you get tired...

A friend of mine got attacked in the woods by a feisty, rabid rhubarb at night while relieving himself...

Needless to say, the reconstructive surgery and recuperation time were quite painful from what he told me.

Louisianaians need to be aware I now have a smattering of French and should be able to detect mutinious mutterings, plots against the captain's life, etc.

              Mon Sha SGT Duffer,

We Yankees now, with real Yankees!!! (And really looking forward to it) We just can't wait to see what the Faux "Lousiaina Units" will respond to with what we may yell at them?

Does this mean the good Sgt. will address us Cajouns all weekend in French?

All I know in Franch is cuss woids ! Got pretty good at em over the years. I can't help but worry bout them durned Rubarbs...one coonass told me if you aint careful they can cut holes in your nets. They must be some pretty bad creatures to do that.

All kiddin aside, we'll (us real Louisianians) have to keep our mouths shut or else they're (dem on the udder side) gonna know we aint Yankee's...so we'll need let the good Cpt and Sgt do all the talking for us.

It'll be entertaining to watch them Faux Louisiana boys, but I guess no different than the Alabamians have watched us portray ALABAMA units for nearly 14 years ! We all talk funny.

Watching the 16th act like Yanks is not going to be any different than watching Jamie Barr act like he's from Alabama. Sorchy and Duffer, you have a fine set on your hands with these boys.

                          Pards,

I'm just wondering. How warm do you estimate this event will be? Will it cool down in the evening? I hope we have access to plenty of water!

The weather will be great ! We'll neither be as hot as we were at "Life on the Line" at Vicksburg in June of 2007, nor will we be as cold as we were when we camped at the Texas monument in Feb of that same year at VICKSBURG ! The weather will be great !

Wayne do you know how to catch Rubarbs ? I'm pretty sure I can cook em.
