Re: A call to Mid-Tenn campaigners!

Just a little over a week left. In lieu of rations, 2 warm period meals will be served in a chow line fashion by refugees. There will be a nominal fee for each meal. Modern currency can be exchanged for "chits" Friday evening. All proceeds will go to battlefield preservation.

Wet Plate Artist Tim parson will be with our company SAT and will give special pricing and the first sittings, he has also agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds from each wetplate sold to battlefield preservation.

Family comes first in all things. We are really fortunate to have Brian as our commander for the weekend, I know he will do a wonderful job, and make it a great experience for all involved.

On a side note, we will be having a wetplate made of the company which will be raffled off SAT evening, all proceeds, of course, will be going to Franklin battlefied preservation efforts.

We still have room in the company for a few more, its a shame more Middle Tennessee Living Historians arent willing to come out and raise some funds for a local site of such great importance. (alright shame session done) SAVE GAS AND HELP PRESERVE A BATTLEFIELD-WHAT MORE COULD ANYONE ASK FOR?

Just found out about this, but Pat Cleburn's sidearm and holster will be on display at Carnton this weekend (first time it has been on the property since the General was laid out there 143 years ago).

I belive I talked with you this past weekend at Parker's. I fell in this the 25th Indiana. Anyway I am with the 51st TN but I hang with the Hard Case a good bit since Timothy Arnold is my son.
I could use a little dirrection to get to the place you guys are going to be. Is anyone going to be there Friday night or just come on Saturday?

Well, I guess I should ask for an invite first.

                        Thanks,

                          Guys,
I am sorry, I couldnt make it out there, as you all know-I was in the field. It sounds like everyone had a good time despite the attrition rate. I had 11 people leave me voice mails or emails saying the 'something had come up'. You guys stuck out the heat, set great example and most importantly raised nearly $150 for historic preservation! A hundred and fifty bucks, doesn't sound like much-especially these days, but if every other independant mess followed our example-we wouldnt be fighting to protect battlefields-we would already own them! This brings the total amount raised by our little merry little band of like minds to $466.00, over the past year. That is something to be proud of! I think it is only fitting that you guys decide where this money gets put to use. To stream line the process, I have narrowed the chioces down to 4 sites, all of which are specical,in need and worthy-which ever gets the most votes in a 24 hour period gets the mony raised this past weekend. In event of a tie, we will split the funds between 2 the two sites. Voting starts an midnight June 24th. Thanks again for your efforts, I hate it that I couldnt be there.-ELI

                          1) Fort Negley- With Brian hosting an event there this October, and it being one we all plan to attend, the money could go to a place where we will can actually enjoy some of the fruits of your labor and helps to build the relationship between the parks department and local livilng historians.
                          2) Shy's Hill- We are working out the details for a preservation march ending with a living history encampment on top of Shy's Hill on the annie of the battle this year, again you get to see where youre money goes and the building of relationships. The battel of Nashville is to frequently forgotten and overlooked, much like its critical historic sites.
                          3) The Carter House-what really needs to be said about this one.
                          4) Manskers Station- I know, and odd candidate, it does however have some Civil War era significance and very important to Tennessee history. This place is in a bad way-if you havent heard, it is being forced to close, an effort is being made to save it-and a rally Tuesday night at Goodlettsville City Hall(6PM). The plan is to raise enough to save it-or close it down for a couple of years to raise funds. Its a wonderful place and a terrible shame. This is the most immediately threatened historic site in Tennessee.

Please reply ONLY if you participated in this Living History. There are a couple of Civilians whom I do not have your email adresses and I wanted you to get your voice in the matter.

The dates are 7, 8 and 9 November for the Ft. Negley Living History.

Regarding the donation of money. Ft. Negley can not recieve direct monetary donations. Since it is part of the larger Metro Nashville Park s and recreation Dept. any moneys donated must go into the Parks and recreations general fund, form which all Nashville City parks are funded. Our best way to directly impact Ft. Negley, is to show up at an event which will help generate public interest, and help during fatigue duty to work on some aspect of helping preserve the site.

I'd have no issues with the money being split between the other three sites, or all going to any one, and (if any) next year, any money raised going to the next one on the list.
