Re: Calm Before The Storm 18-20 Jan 08

For those brave few of us who dared the sub-freezing Temperatures, we certainly shared hardships, and earned bragging rites for doing so.

On Friday Night I think it was down to 16 degrees, with a low of 11 degrees on Saturday Night.

The event itself, was as advertised. We established small outposts spread along an old wagon trail which ran through a wooded valley with a great creek running through. Having walked the Telegraph Road between Forts Donelson and Henry, I can attests that the terrain was not that different. While we were unopposed, it seems that one or two of the posts saw enough movement to fire a few shots which kept everyone on their toes (as frozen and aching as they were)!

I was posted with Kiev and three young fellas from Ga. (CJ, Jordan and Logan) all of whom proved to be very adept at manning the period saws, and securing enough fire wood to keep a fire burning through the entire night.

Eli, please give a special thanks to the maker of the Corn bread! And thank you for putting this event together.

The land was exceptional, and I hope we can use it for future events.

Although small, it was a good event, and I greatly enjoyed it.

I agree whole heartily with all the previous posts. It was well worth the mid-winter, long drive from Springfield, IL. I have to thank Eli for putting together such a realistic event and my messmates Ryan Protz and Dan Chemlar for their comradeship all weekend. If these young guys are the future of our hobby then we're in good shape.

Tim, It was great to see you down there. We werent expecting that you were going to be there until you showed up on Friday. Was happy to see ya there.

Like everyone else said, it was a great time. We were all told there were Federals out there. It was a very period moment for me, standing picket and not knowing for sure if Federals were going to hit us or not. We all figured they would hit at about sundown, but as shifts went by and no Federals showed we started to wonder. But then later that night when shots were fired it just made us wonder even more.

Great time and great location. Would be a great place for a tactical event Eli!!

            Guys ,

I had plans to attend this and due to Dr orders I spent the weekend puting eye drops in my eyes 8 times each day and cleaning my face with a saltwater and Iodine. preping for my Cateract Surgery I had today

Sounds like every one had a swell time. For the stories i seen sounds like the area is perfect for another event in the future.
