Re: Calm Before The Storm 18-20 Jan 08
For those brave few of us who dared the sub-freezing Temperatures, we certainly shared hardships, and earned bragging rites for doing so.
On Friday Night I think it was down to 16 degrees, with a low of 11 degrees on Saturday Night.
The event itself, was as advertised. We established small outposts spread along an old wagon trail which ran through a wooded valley with a great creek running through. Having walked the Telegraph Road between Forts Donelson and Henry, I can attests that the terrain was not that different. While we were unopposed, it seems that one or two of the posts saw enough movement to fire a few shots which kept everyone on their toes (as frozen and aching as they were)!
I was posted with Kiev and three young fellas from Ga. (CJ, Jordan and Logan) all of whom proved to be very adept at manning the period saws, and securing enough fire wood to keep a fire burning through the entire night.
Eli, please give a special thanks to the maker of the Corn bread! And thank you for putting this event together.
The land was exceptional, and I hope we can use it for future events.
Although small, it was a good event, and I greatly enjoyed it.
