Re: Kennesaw Mtn. NPS LH 20-22 June 08

    Pards,
This event is shaping up to be a killer LH. I'm looking forward to the Sunday march.
All you Eastern boys, this is a chance to throw in with some real Hawkeyes.
Let's see if we can put together a first-rate company of 45 men.

              Kennesaw One Month From Today

Kennesaw Mountain Living History is one month away. You still have time to register. Don't let gas prices and a bunch of Hawkeyes scare you away.

Actually, quite a fair number of the sports team names of state universities are the historic state nicknames, especially in the Big Ten (Hawkeyes, Badgers, Buckeyes, Hoosiers, etc.) I'd sure like a ball cap of the Missou Pukes, though...
Look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks at the Mountain (even the Pukers- I guess.) :wink_smil If anyone else has decided to join us, contact Hairy Nation Boys, we can probably extend that deadline a little. It should be a great time.

                            Arch,
And some sports team nicknames owe their origins to the Civil War( i.e. The Fighting Irish). How about the Jayhawks of KU?
Looking forward to a grand outing at Kennesaw Mt. I'm told there are still openings for latecomers. Contact us.

Re: Kennesaw Mtn. NPS LH 20-22 June 08

                                Boys,

I hope this letter finds you well. We are getting closer to our living history at Kennesaw and I wanted to remind you of a few things. Remember our impression is Co.G of the 11th Iowa

                                1. Rounds: We will be having firing demonstrations. The park told me that they will provide the rounds for us. So, leave your rounds at home. (They did not mention caps.) As many of you know the park service will check your weapons before they allow you to fire and take the field. Please make sure your weapons are in good working order. We will have a weapons inspection Saturday.

                                2. Mail Call: As stated once before we will be having a mail call. Make sure you have a stamp on your letter. You will hand these letters into us at the time of you arrival.

                                3. First person: First person will be enforced throughout the weekend. Please do not ruin the experience by talking about sports, politics, movies or anything else. Our NCO’s will gently talk to you if you continue to leave first person. If you do want to talk about upcoming events etc. simply leave the camp area and in a hush tone discuss modern items.

                                4. Uniform Guidelines/Appearance: Please make sure that you have read over the guidelines and that you can follow them. We will have an inspection of your gear. Please do not put anything that will embarrass you. We have one person already selected for taking pictures. So, you have no need of having a camera on you.
Remember these men were on campaign. So, a dirty look is wanted. If you are not dirty enough to fit our standards we will help you out.

                                5. Officers and NCO’s are:
                                Captain Harrison Holloway
                                Lieutenant Archibald Campbell
                                Orderly Lem Ellington
                                2nd Sgt. Preston Todd
                                Cpl. George Hall
                                Cpl. Chris Henderson
                                Cpl. Ryan Protz
                                Cpl. Jake Wickham
*Please do not salute the officers. Since we are in reserve, but still close to the frontlines we do not want to give the rebs any chance to pick us off.

                                6. Schedule: This is a living history and our goal is to educate the public. We do have a schedule of events but we are keeping that a secret so as to give a feeling of what it was like at the time to be in reserve. We have some things planned both during the day and at night that you WILL enjoy.

                                7. Drill:
Go over skirmish drill, and posting of pickets.

Please drive safe, and we will see you in two weeks!
