Today is the last day to pre-register

Today is the last day to pre-register for Resaca as part of our Campaigner Battalion. If you want to take part in rations, the Friday Battlefield Tour, and a couple of other surprises, you must register today!!!

Also several folks have sent in registration forms but have not sent in their registration fee. See the updated registration list to see who you are. You must also get your registration fee into us today if you want to take part in all the festivities planned for the Battalion. Using PayPal is the fastest and easiest way to do this. You will find a button on the registration page that makes it very easy.

Of course let's not forget about our battalion t-shirts for those attending this event to raise money for the Friends of Resaca Battlefield. We have only ordered 50 of these shirts. With over 130 men now registered these will go fast. The only way to guarantee you will get one is to pre-order. The t-shirt will be gray with navy blue stencil of a Texas state seal surround by the words "10th Texas Infantry 2009 Battle of Resaca" on the back and a AOT Infantryman surround by "Western Independent Grays" on the front. They will come in Large, X Large and XX Large. The cost will be $15.00. If you want to pay with PayPal the price will be $16.25. $5.00 from each shirt will be donated to the Friends of Resaca Battlefield.

To make sure you get one, you can preorder by sending a check made out to the "Western Independent Grays" to

    Tripp Corbin
    2712 Wilding Green Lane
    Dacula, Ga 30019

If you want to preorder by PayPal go to the event homepage and click on the PayPal button. The shirts will be handed out at the event. Make sure to include your shirt size when ordering.

          Comrades,

I was doing a search on the Ole' AC and ran across this old thread, with a great picture of the AOT Soldiers from 1864. So those of you, like me, looking for some historical background to refine your impression; here it is...

These Gentlemen are Prisoners and the image was made in Chicago in late 1864. One thing I noted was the preponderance of hats vice caps amongst the prisoners.

That is a really good pic showing troops that are as close to what they looked like on campaign as we can get. No "lets dress up and put on our cravats for the picture", just AOT soldiers as they were. A great research/reference item. Thanks for sharing!!

              Always liked this photo.

Rare indeed, imagine how many photos like these were destroyed or lost over the years.

Do you have any more info on this pic? Were they in route to a prison or where they were captured? I had 3 ancestors that were captured at the Battle of Resaca which were sent to Alton Prison in Ill. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of them...it sure would be something if they were in this pic.

                      Jason,

Take a read through the the original thread it was posted in...

This photo came from a 1991 Military Images Magazine, can't remember what issue.

Titled; "Just from Dixie, 1864". Publishers think it is a photo of Western Confederates (AOT) taken in the streets of Chicago. According to Les Jensen, there are Columbus Depot, and North Carolina Jackets seen. Note the different shirts, and Slouch Hats. Knapsacks & Civilian Sack Coat in the ranks?
Currious about what looks like a striped Blanket slung on the far right Soldier's shoulder...
this image was a carte de visite that came from the album of a 105th Ohio boy, who had been a guard at Camp Douglas P.O.W. Camp in Chicago. No hard date is given, so pinning down the time period may be impossible.
The Image is described as being from Camp Douglas in Chicago when some soldiers of the 105th Ohio were detailed as guards there in 1864.

I have heard from someone who has attended this event in the past that is good being on original ground in all but the rebs outnumber the feds like 8-1, and it says in the event info that some rebs might have to galvanize, so bring your blue suits boy, just kidding, maybe next time we go south to go fed and cause real trouble with the natives.

Actually in 2007 the Feds out numbered the Rebs. It was glorious.

One thing about the battle and tour. If we do choose to fight the battle for the fort who is leading us and if we do the tour can are we going to find the spot that Sam Watkins and the 1st TN was at during the battle? My friend was at the event a few years ago and I am glad to hear more feds show up.
