  • Potomac Legion COI April 17-19, 2009

Dates - April 17-19, 2009 (Friday evening to Sunday midday)
    Event Name - PL COI
Location - Army Heritage Center for Education, Carlisle, Pennsylvania
Host - U. S. Army Heritage Center for Education
    Sponsor - Potomac Legion
Discussion site - YahooGroup (to be announced)
    Contact - Joe Bordonaro joe1861@gmail.com
Event type - Semi-immersion, camp of instruction
    Impression- Early-to mid-war Federal
Preservation - Any left-over funds from registration fee will be sent to CWPT
Registration - Registration will open pending final approval of site use which is expected by January of 2009. Registration fee: $25 dollars plus a $10 security deposit which be refunded to each registrant immediately upon completion of the event; deposit refunded to everyone who arrives by 9:00 p.m. Friday and stays to the end of the event. Total fee: $35, which includes cooked meals from Saturday breakfast through Sunday breakfast.
Notes - The AHEC site contains a winter-quarter grouping of huts, a rifle pit, and an artillery emplacement. Participants are also invited to bring tents, either shelter halves, A-frames, or Sibley tents. The host will provide straw, firewood, water, and sanitation facilities. There is plenty of room for drill, which will be the main order of the day at this event. Drill will be done as per Casey's. This is the place to "shake the rust off" with a larger number of like-minded reenactors than individual reenacting groups are usually able to assemble. The target number of participants is 75-100.

      Jerry,
Yeah, AHEC is horse-friendly. You'd probably have to bring your own hay but there will be plenty of water for the horsies to drink.

        Joe,
Nice job setting this up with Mr. Heath. This is a great place to have a COI and it will be a great learning experience. Thanks again.

          Art,
Thanks! I look forward to drilling with ALACRITY!

          PS
          Friends,
I listed the event type as semi-immersive by mistake. The event is being held on a publicly-owned piece of land and we are expected to interact with the public in a non-first person mode, so the only immersive aspect to this event will be our immersion in drill!

            Folks,

A question was raised at the recent Potomac Legion meeting as to whether or not non-PL member groups and individuals are invited to attend, and of course they are. If you are interested, note that Joey has yet another email address: beatlefans1@verizon.net Shoot Joey an email if you are interested in attending.

AHEC is a darn nice site, and a good number of you have been attending events there for a while now. I went by there a few days ago, and darned if they haven't built yet another building on the History Trail.

There's plenty of room at the AHC and if you've never been there, it's worth a trip. There will be a chance for folks to brush up on your "campaign" skills, as well as sharpen up your drill. Come on, wadda' you waiting for?

beatlefans@verizon.net Shoot Joey an email if you are interested in attending.

Or, Mr Charles: For a copy of the registration form, and to reserve your seat, email: heath9999@aol.com

                  Friends,
Unfortunately the date for the Neshaminy event was changed after we had reserved the AHEC site (the Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, Pennsylvania), so both events are on the weekend of April 18-19. So you'll have to miss one or the other. The Neshaminy event is well-established but our COI at AHEC is a new enterprise so we really need your help to make it a success. Please consider missing the Neshaminy event this year. Its organizer, Bill Rodman, knows that the conflict was not intentional so he won't hold it against you if you don't go this year :)
By going to our COI you will also be supporting the Army Heritage and Education Center which is a top-notch facility and deserving of our time and effort. We will be giving any left-over registration money to the Civil War Preservation Trust so you will also be supporting preservation by attending. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!

                    Friends,
Dave is going to be our Captain at the COI in April. Those of you who have seen him filling that role in the past know he does a good job. He reads the manuals and works with his troops to get the drill right. If that sounds like the kind of practice you'd like to get, drop me a line and I'll send you the details on how to sign up.

Registrations have begun to come in. Remember, there's a cap on registrants. "I'll register later," may not be an option. When you're registration is received, you'll be added to the event listserver. What are you waiting for?:D
