  • Waterloo of the Confederacy

I'm attempting to gather a few fellers for a living history event at the Five Forks battlefield. This would take place the weekend before the actual anniversary. (01 April 65) May do a bit of marching...perhaps from Gravelly Run Methodist Episcopalian (sp?) Church site to the "forks" proper. Real low key event with emphasis on meeting and greeting the public. Federal impression will be Infantry; Warren's V Corps. CS followers would portray Pickett's division, (Infantry) or if possible, arty under the command of Willie Pegram. Questions? Comments? Concerns? Give me a shout-out...

Any thought of including Federal Cavalry given that they played a major part in the battle?

Cavalry indeed! Yup, ol' Phil Sheridan had aprox. 9000 troopers between Dinwiddie Courthouse and Five Forks. Will check with the site ranger to see if equestrian needs can be met.

As of this writing, ( 15 December 08), the new Five Forks contact station is still under construction. Unfortunately, this means there would be no water on site. So...no accomodations for horse mounted troops at this time. Looks as though the event is to take place Saturday, March 28, '09 and Sunday March 29, '09. Bill Bachus, (sp?) is ram-rodding the event. Will advise...
