The 3rd Mississippi Mess is hosting the first annual Alexandria Afire! Federal occupation event May 1st-3rd, 2009. This event is a Federal-only INFANTRY event for authentic-minded living historians. Limited specialty impressions (civilians, sutlers, blacksmiths, etc) considered on a case-by-case basis.
Reenactors will camp on the grounds to depict the occupation of the Kent House and the burning of Alexandria during the Red River Campaign in May 1864.
Space is limited, so there will be no battle and registration will be capped at 25 reenactors. A period ration issue, drill, and interaction with the public are planned.
Fresh water and bathroom facilities are on the premises.
For those who want to participate in the period ration issue, there will be a $10.00 fee; for those who want to handle their own mess responsibilities, the fee will be waived, but everyone must pre-register.
Those who have an interest of doing both a campaign and (brief) garrison impression are encouraged to attend--especially reenactors interested in interacting with the public about material culture of the impression of a late-war federal soldier.
