    DM XI: Corduroy! (2-4 October 2009)

    Reb registration is very limited. Federals probably ought to know how to use an ax, pick, shovel, and even a little something about road building and log skidding. I'm really looking forward to seeing those many Empire State messes who claim to be pioneers and engineers actually out in the field breaking a sweat building a road that will actually be used long after the event is over. Yessir! Here's a chance to apply that know-how.

    Charles - had a blast at DM-X and if wasn't for the fact my adventures are leading elsewhere this year, I'd have mailed my registration today.

        Marc, you are going to a place to do an important job where folks are using real bullets. Keep your head down, and we'll see you when you get back home.

        Paul, pay close attention to what the artillery fellows say this weekend, and you may find yourself volunteering for a weekend in August near Elmira or late October in Adams County. The deer would eat it all, but seeing cannister shot rip through corn in a certain piece of bottom land would be fun.

          First registrations are already in hand. Force ratios are 3:1 US/CS. The event location is the same as the event held in 2006 but will use essentially new acreage.

          Don't let a little four letter word like "hill" or "work" affect your decision. While it is true there will be some need to wield a period tool or two, expect to participate in other military games like marching, picket and patrol duty too.

          There are several working civilian slots available. Activities will be focused around the typical chores associated with annual hog butchering. Our goal is to start with raw products that yield intermediary or end products for use in subsequent events.

            Terri,

            Can you put me into the Confederate camp? I talked to Charles about helping with the food and he was agreeable to that. It'll be strange shooting at the other side. Once I remember my yahoo membership for the site, I'll send in the registration. Or, if you could e-mail me one, I'd sure appreciate it.

                This is all fine and dandy, but the important news is the good fishin' pond is behind federal lines. This is just a terribly tragic situation. Terrible. I suppose if we survive both the Spangler's Spring Hoosierfest and the Texans at G'burg event, we can deal with this.

                    I finally tracked down my collection of axes, shovels, and saws for building the road. Anyone wanting to do some real living history and do something that is seldom done, come along with me. A free ride from the mid-Atlantic to New York is available. The weak in body and spirit need not apply.
