        Re: 2009 Events

Marker put in for Fire on the Mountain, Early September 2009- on the original ground at Fox's Gap.

Approach marches for both sides of about 1 mile, scripted fighting on the actual ground, then moving south on the Mountain for further " free form" action on and around Lamb's Knoll.

Looking for 700-1000 total participants, McDowell level regulations, of course 1862, with each unit assigned a guiding impression.

Friday night in a fixed setting near National Pike Gorge, Saturday night - wherever you drop on South Mountain.

All proceeds to the Friends of South Mountain State Battlefield, hosted by WMHF.

Once firmed up, more info will be out after AHT.

              Re: 2009 Events

              Gents,

I know the 2008 season is still very much under way, but it is never to early to think of the future. After having a conversation with one of the guys in my unit about upcoming events, I started thinking about 2009, and what events are on the horizon.

My unit's focus is on eastern events, yes, I know, some of the best events occur west of the "big scary mountains", but for me the time and money needed to reach those events isn't a reality at this point. So to that end I took a look at the event forum to see what is on the list for 2009...and so far there isn't much:

              April
              PL COI

              May
              Spottsy LH

              August
Death March-not on the list hear, but I am pretty sure it will happen

              September
Fire on the Mountain-not sure if this is still going on since the vibe Chris gave out after AHT was that he was taking a time out from event sponsorship

My question is, does anyone know of any other events that are going on in the MD/PA/VA area next season?

              Take care,

                Re: 2009 Events

                Tom,

There is a pretty good list on the OTB Forum, as usual. Why not ride down to Into the Piney Woods with us next March? I know the usual reasons not to leave the Nutmeg State during the winter, but you know how that goes. Some of the New England folks are starting to get their roadrunner jones again, now that fuel prices are dipping a little bitty bit.

The Death March XI event is likely to be back at the old location south of Elmira, NY, and may be moved to the first weekend in October 2009 for a variety of reasons. Bring a sharp ax and/or a functional shovel. This may be a great time for some of those #1 Ames repops coming out of Brazil to make a splash at an event.

I need to drop an invite or two on the New England Campaigners listserver to reinforce some invitations, especially one for mid-April.

                  Re: 2009 Events

Some of the Cadets and alumni from VMI are going to try really hard to do a march from VMI to New Market and opening it up for anyone who wants to join us and make that a preservation march from Staunton to New Market, a distance of 50 miles. It would be in May of 2009. We would love to see a big turnout for this historic march. But more details will follow.
                  Respectfully,

                      John,

I wonder if I could get some boys from the Dippin' Gourds to head down that way. I'd enjoy another event with you and your pards at some point. A stint of Winter Garrison never hurt a soldier.. it only made him stronger. I'll bring it up to the guys to see what we have going on in November.

                        Joel,

Looks like quite a bit of activity is potentially bunchin up and crowding in on the weekend of 15-17 May 2009 in the Old Dominion, as ding the big event the first weekend of the month is a priority for some, while attending it is a priority for others, and the Mothers Day weekend (as previously listed) is typically one of those no-go, no-fly, do not disturb features. Having a primarily gray event and a primarily blue event the same weekend might not be a huge problem, save for those who enjoy attending events in a variety of shades, hues, etc.

I'll shoot der fugelman an email, although he already has a heads up from a while back.

From my understanding that opportunity evaporated a long time ago over the number "400." What a shame. Keep in mind this is an old thread, and evidently no one has been updating the events section since last December.
