  • Bummers Event Site Pictures

Kiev, Jordan, and I went down to the site for a walkthrough and planning session. I had a moment of clarity and brought my camera as well. So here are a few pictures of what you'll be getting in.... I mean experiencing at Bummers next year.

When Eric said the site is "like Rich Mountain and Pickett's Mill had a baby" he means it. There will be some hard marching up some steep ridges so being in shape is a goal that you might want to think about. (those who were recently at Pickett's Mill can attest to the somewhat challenging terrain)

This event promises to be definitely "different" than those ebufu events that you might have gone to in the past. So keep your calendars cleared for November in 2009 and come on down to Georgia for a definitive reenacting experience.

This is going to be stellar.

Too bad there is no way to accommodate spectators. I have a keen interest in the March to the Sea and the Ga. militia (among others)

We caught the Malvern Hill event which was pretty fluid but had a known point to watch some of the action.

You guys do amazing things. Keep up the great work.

From "Marching With Sherman" By Henry Hitchcock (One of our Primary Sources):

Sunday, November 13, 1864 - "Amazing campaign through this wild country. Road often through dense woods, close underbrush and between hills. Part of way here were between Corse and J.E. Smith, (Brig. General John E. Smith, commanding Third Division, Fifteenth Corps), and almost expected bushwackers."

Yup, 145 years later - to the day, we will be marching through very similiar territory... as you can see from the photos. ;)

          Gents,
No bull ...start getting in shape. Those of you that fell out at New Hope....you know who you are!:wink_smilstart making changes.I work on my feet in heat ,cold ,wind whatever and climbing ladders and such all day every day and the hills we took on at the walk through were tough!
Also in keeping with that.Look at your gear. Make sure your shoes are good.We all have plenty of time to get new ones or make repairs now.Do not wait and blow out a pair at the event. The rocks there are big and nasty. There is a good bit of sand and mud too.

Cullen it is! When folks see the ridges and hills I think they'll be pleasantly surprised! I won't say much else what they find there. You'll have to be there in November '09 to see the rest!

Also Kiev is totally correct! He plus Jordan and I did some walking along parts of the route and it there is some challenging terrain. But seriously folks when did hills and valleys ever slow our side of the hobby down?

            Come prepared to immerse yourself!

Marching with Sherman is one of my favorite Union reads...a must have.

I would gut shoot myself with a Colt's revolver to experience what is detailed in that work.

I'd talk to Pat Peterson about the gut shooting before attempting it. That way you have a first person experience to base your decision to "shoot or not to shoot" off of.:tounge_sm:wink_smil

To demonstrate my quest for accuracy I am going to use a .44 cal ball.

None the less make sure y'all take plenty of pics to post here with AAR. I always enjoy those photos.

                    Local "Scouts" to Lead Federals

We have hired local "scouts" for the Federals to make sure that they stay on course during the event. A photo of one of our scouts in action is attached. ;)
