      Sam,

Which of those exercises did best help you lose that weight? Looking to drop some pounds myself....I imagine running would be best.

      Thanks,

I walk to and from the bar downtown :)

Nah, I'm walking 3-5 miles a day with a fat lab in tow.

After being out for 3 months due to a broken toe, I am back in Tae Kwon Do class. All of the push-ups we do will get my arms ready to throw buckets of water on men with torches. :p

For those wanting to lose weight martial arts is something to consider. It is a great work out with lots of stretching which is good for us " old folks." It is also good for you mentally as my instructor says, " use your mind more than your strength."

For quick weight loss I suggest a short trip to Haiti. Ten days will cost under 700.00. When you arrive just have a sip of water and hold on. The Haitian Happiness is the quickest way to move. (no pun intended). I lost 25 pounds in January. I have also kept the weight off.

This is going to be an interesting ride in November and I am happy to see that folks are being serious about keeping in shape to prepare for this event. My only regret is missing a couple days of bear season. Enjoy and Lord willing I will see all or most there.

Re: What are you doing to be in shape?

Well I went on a hike about 4 miles through one of the state forests, I asked for the hilliest route they had and since I am in a plateau are I got a nice river valley and some hilly areas.
I did make these observations. Water will be crucial. I wore my federal outfit, uniform, knapsack, haversack, cartridge box and belt and canteen, and haversack. I wore what I usually do and well I sweated quite a bit. It was a nice hike and I want to make the longer 6 mile one but it is mostly paved. I will do that but not in brogans. Anyway here is what I figured out. One go light, anything you can live without, live without. I know it will be cold at night but go with one blanket and spoon it up. Also if you all are hiking try it with what you are bringing to the event, I bet you will get rid of some things. Also my shirt was soaked and at night that will not be cool, if you get my drift. Also I could not carry a weapon so I grabbed a stick about the same weight and used that throughout the trip. I also broke in my one pair of Woodburn socks, which were nice. That is another thing try new stuff out now, do not wait. I am sure you all know mos of this but I was suprised how tired I was. Also I know there will not be pork chops with applesauce and ice cream after our long marches.
I got called a Yankee but only when I stopped by an apple festival on the way home. So be ready federals these Georgians mean business, if they are anything like the Tennesseans.
Recapp light, extra clothing for night, and wear your stuff on your hikes. This means you Dave.:angry_smi

                      Herb,

I'm still with you and ROB. I spent all me tin at the Nuckolls Tavern on Friday Night in Lumpkin. In this case it was Rum not Beer. A drink called the 'Stone Fence' which the Cashier of the Bank of Westville recommends highly now.

I had a lot of ladies comment that they were hoping 'not' to see me in November. I can't imagine why those ladies wouldn't want to see a dedicated and professional Sergeant of the 59th Indiana, those other blue suited hordes won't be anywhere nearly as well controlled and behaved as my boys will be.

Workout consists of : Yeungling "black & tan" in left hand / Yeungling "black & tan" in right hand, now lift! Depleteing contents upon each curl.
Well that and moving about the 5000lbs of birdseed we go thur our store each week, and my weekly "daddy time jaunts" up on Lookout Mountain, and the surrounding areas.

JUst to add on to my routine.
This week starting my 6-10 mile hike/walk in almsot full kit minus the rifle. The locals get kind of testy when I wonder around the area with my musket. Oh the kids love it.
