Men of the 10th Iowa. Our original roster listed over 32 men in the ranks.
As of today we have 15. As far as event attrition goes that is past the limits of acceptable. If you are signed on to our foraging party and have an excuse why you cant make it then that is fine. But if it is something that I or someone in the company can help with so you can attend then let us know. We NEED you to go to be able to make this work. A word is a bond. Unless you had something come up let Sgt Kupsh, myself or Sgt Ackerett know how we can help you.
Lets go Hawkeyes we need you at Bummers.

Hmm, that's interesting Terry. The 10th Iowa was the first party to close way back in the early summer. I had since turned several men in other party directions because of it's quickness to fill. Even though 30+ may show on the website, there was never more than 27 to acutally attend because I would not remove "paid" folks from the lists who couldn't go.

Foraging parties will operate with whomever shows up on their lists. If five men show, then they will work together. If a party leader doesn't make it, then it drops down to the NCO's. There will be no consolidations. No need to.

Hey Lads- If you were signed-up and paid, we could really use you. As he said, we'll have to make do, but bailing is kind of leaving us out to dry, and do with 15 what 32 were put together to face/overcome.

Totally understand if you have a death in the family or you have broken a leg, but sure we could all come together to help you out whatever it is. You just have to supply the good attitude.... Contact any of the above or contact me if there is anything which can be done beyond the attitude.

I am sure a couple other guys in the 10th will chime in with similar offers of support.

Thanks for your consideration and all the best...

Speaking as an event staffer it would be nice if folks who have signed up actually show up. Kewl Keyboard Kampaiging Komments aside I know that my fellow event staffers have put a lot of work into this event. If you don't show up then so be it. It'll be your loss and your pards gain! Yes, that means there is more forage for the hearty Yankee Souls who brave Middle Georgia and its Skunk Ape/Militia/Georgia Cracker issues. Basically that means Berezuk, Jimbo, and Tall Rob will get all the pie.

In the end if you can show up then at least let your commanders/forage party leaders know BEFORE the event. Don't be a Uber Tool and not even say a word to your pards.

Remeber kids the event fees are NON REFUNDABLE. So if you don't show take solace in the fact that your cash goes to a worthy preservation cause.

I'll be at Bummers, how about you?

I love lists. In this case, I would enjoy a list of all the softies who wanted to look kewl and be on the "I'm coming" list but who had no real intention of doing much beyond appearing on the list.

The list of no-shows would be helpful in knowing who the Enemies of the People are.

Additional reasons to appear on the Enemies of the People would be checking the forecast and deciding to stay away if rain appears possible.

              Herb,
But what if there is a 30% chance of rain in the forecast? Isn't that a good excuse? Or, "I had to remove lint from the dryer filter." Can't you understand that some people like list, but don't like actually going to events. Maybe you can just send the "I survived Bummers" t-shirts out before the event to save them the trouble of actually attending to get such.

There should be moratorium on AAR's until after it starts raining on Saturday morning.

Yes, and also interesting to cross reference the "Enemies of the People" list with the "Recently unemployed & concerned with feeding of offspring" list.

If there is much overlap, you may regret your reference to your fellow hobbyists as "Enemies".

I have absolutely no dog in this fight but I do find it interesting that anyone would make such a statement. If one does not look past the tip of one's nose, it may be best to stay out of conversations about bird watching.

...Unless of course all comments were in jest. In that scenario they would be removed from the "a-hole comment" list and placed on the "simply not funny" list.

I have my reasons why I can't attend. I had major back surgery in June. I went to Into the Piney Woods, Wisconsin ONV event and Kennesaw all with back pain popping pills to make it through. I should have stayed home for Lost Tribes but I was putting it on. If anyone has a problem with me not attending Bummers please call me and we can talk. I e-mailed the event organizers and contacted my sgt and Terry Sorchy as soon as I made my decison.

                        Guys:

We have over 620 people signed up for the event. Yes, I would love for every one of those people to show up, but as we all well know, that isn't going to happen. We made the event non-refundable because we made a commitment to the Wray Collection to raise money. That we have done, and then some, since we originally projected 500 registrations. If the expenses come in where we think they will, we will donate a nice hefty sum to the collection. So, on that part, mission accomplished.

Once we are in the field, it won't really matter if one party has 25 and another has 3. It won't matter if we have 400 show up, or 600. I regret to see that some people cannot make it, but those people, if they paid, made a contribution to the Atlanta History Center and that is a good thing by itself.

So, to those who are coming, we think you will have a good time. To those who can't make it - for whatever reason, my attitude is that I wish you could make it, but sh!t happens in life and life trumps hobbies. Anyone who doesn't have a good reason not to attend will know in their heart when they read the AAR's whether they made the right decision or not. So, let's just have a kick ass time and concentrate on those who will be there; think about those, like Holler, who would love to be there, but have a very good reason not to be and not worry about the rest.

Thank you for the inane "no dog in this fight" commentary. That will surely bump the event and turn out the troops. Sorry you will not be there.
