For those coming south through Atlanta, be careful with mapquest directions and traffic. Getting into Atlanta will be easy, but once you are south of the city the traffic will be rough. Map Quest says to go through Jonesboro via Tara Blvd. These state highways have a lot of traffic lights and are crowded on a Friday evening rush hour. I know GA 85 can be killer. I recommend staying on the interstate as much as possible even if the directions say it's a little longer. It will actually be quicker.

Re: Mapquest
I lived in the Atlanta area for 14 years (1991-2005). When the man says traffic is bad, he means it. I recently hit Washington D.C. traffic, and it was all too familiar. I used to visit patients in Atlanta hospitals. I knew if I didn't leave a hospital by 3pm, I was committing to nearly doubling my ride time. Typically, Atlanta afternoon/evening traffic last between 3pm-7pm. Georgians, am I right?John Calvin "J.C." Kimmer

Re: Mapquest
First off don't use Map Quest. It stinks. Google Maps or your updated GPS unit is the way to go.
Second, if traveling down I-75 don't get off at the Jonesboro/Tara Blvd exit. You be getting to experience every traffic light in Clayton County. Best bet is to continue down I-75 to the Griffen/Hwy 16 exit. This is exit 205. Head west to Griffen, not east to Jackson.
Also if you decided to head down I-85 south out of Atlanta there is road construction from Fairburn down to Newnan. There are only two lanes open. Be prepared to slow down.
Also folks watch your speed limit in the small towns off of the interstate. The local John Q. Law will give you a ticket. Especially to out of towners and people with Yankee accents.
Also registration opens at Noon on Friday. There is no reason for you to get stuck in the ATL's traffic bedlam on Friday afternoon. After 4pm on Friday's be prepared to sit in Atlanta traffic. Hopefully most folks have the foresight to arrange their arrivals to NOT be last minute. Therefore avoiding the crap-tastic Atlanta traffic.Herb Coats

Re: Mapquest
Herb,
For BGR and IPW we advised folks traveling from the northland to speed through the small towns and wear their yankee uniforms. Seems the same advice would be suitable for Georgia.Tom Yearby

Tom brings up a good point. Ok... All Federal participants, especially with "funny" accents not native to Georgia, please wear your Bloo Soot and Speed like Demons in all small Georgia towns.
Everyone else stick to my first announcement.Herb Coats

Re: Mapquest
Indeed, prior to IPW we wore the "Iowa" t-shirts that Holler had sent down all over the route that the Yankee boys would be taking to the event site. We sped, flipped off highway patrolmen, and were rude and obnoxious to all we encountered.
Having just returned from three days in Hotlanta, the above actions seem to be the norm for the majority of the folk, largely imported Yankee hirelings bent on killing one another with smog and wearing their neck ties too tightly and thinking too highly of themselves.Fred Baker

I heard rumors that Colonel Sorchy and his legion would be wearing "We Miss Bret" shirts on their trek down from the frozen cheeseland and that he would supply "Go Badgers" t-shirts to anyone willing to suffer under his brutal command.Tom Yearby

Reminds me of the trip to Raymond I when my pards and I pulled into a truck stop for breakfast somewhere north of Jackson. Apparently your friends get wierded out if you're wearing a Union Reenactor t-shirt and ask the Southern hostess for a book of matches.Bob Welch

An occasional shot fired will also clear a path along the roadway for you, and possibly cause a police escort for your convenience.

Re: Mapquest
IMHO, I-85 southside construction is a mess, but on a normal day you at least keep moving. I have pulled a trailer thru it. I-75 south of the ghetto is slow EVERY day.Just a private soldier trying to make a difference
