  • Come Rain, or Sleet, or Snow...

Like the Postal Service, I'm coming.

If I missed out on the biggest event (in number of people attending) this year I'd have to sell every last bit of kit I had.

Its going to be one hell of a time making Georgia Howl and I'm looking forward to it. I need to walk a hole in my left brogan to match the one in the right brogan anyway this year.
    Your Obedient Servant,

    Peter M. Berezuk

Brother Pete. I hope it does rain or sleet or snow. It would be nice if Georgia has the opportunity to make the campaigner-lites howl. Me thinks they'll already be demoralized when they find that a beer run or leaving early isn't possible. Embrace the suck!

Mr. Berezuk and Mr. Birney are both know troublemakers and known for temporary fits of insanity, so that should be considered when they rant publicly. However, I saw both of back in March standing in a cold rain on a muddy road in Louisiana and can say that they not only talk the talk, but walk the walk.

              Uncle Tom and Billy,
I wish i was back on that freezing cold road in the Kisatchie Forest with y,all,
I think the weather made the event a lot better than if it had been pleasant and sunny the whole time. The comradeship between the men under the circumstances was outstanding.
I don,t care what the weather is like in Georgia in 3 weeks time i just want to have another great time trying to honor those men whose footsteps we are attempting to walk in.

              All the best,

I am sorry that you have chosen to be a yankee forager, but you can still be my cousin and I will bring an extra flask of drambuie this time. If you get captured, I will share with you. Don't know if I can save you from execution, but I will drink with you beforehand even if it is your time to go.

If J.T is captured you may need to ply him with some snuff. That is the only way to calm the wild beast when he begins to rage. As for Mr. Birney, some kind soul may wish to donate him a pair of socks as his last pair may be found on a muddy hill in the Kisatchie.

Beware the Preacher. He is as quick to slit a throat or pull his pistol as any bushwacker I've had the pleasure to meet. Many traitors and godless yankees in Grey's Summit can attest to that.

After thoughtful consideration of "Mad Billy Birney's" desire for rain, sleet or snow at Bummers, and not one to covet such misery though it was certainly was and is a part of a soldiers life, I too hope it rains, sleets, or snows so that the sheep may be separated from the sheep droppings. It is nothing like shared misery to bond men and test them and to see the truth of that old adage that states that when thrown into a fire some men melt like butter while others become hardened like iron. We will see. Bring on the rain!

I am not wishing ill on Bummers or its participants. My concern is that the keyboard campaigners that have registered will check the weather forecast and if there is a 30% chance of rain, will opt for removing the lint from the dryer filter rather than attending. I realize some that have registered can not attend because of legitimate reason. However, others, those without valid reason, should make good their pledge to attend. Go Bummers and go Hawkeyes!

I've posted this before, but this is for Pete, Billy, and all of those who love getting rained on at events.

"Weather During the First 10 Days of the “March to the Sea”
Taken from “Southern Storm” by N.A. Trudeau

According the author these weather measurements were compiled by using diary and journal accounts from the civilians and soldiers involved. He had help from a graduate student in weather and climate at the University of Georgia to compile the temperatures.

The cities listed “under the gun” had soldiers getting close, entering the town, burning buildings or taking food.
