    Re: Bummers Rules of Engagement

Has provision been made for CS prisoners who may wish to take the Oath of Loyalty to the Union?
Hey, what about captured Yankees who wish to take the loyalty oath to the Confederacy! We really want want the ones with the Spencers and such. Come join us, and you will be fed and given the chance to get even with your officers and Sgts!

For the Federals, your primary objective is to find food. PERIOD. A distant second is defending yourselves because of the hostile terrain you travel in.

For the Militia, your simple goal is to harrass (not defeat!) the Federals. Capture as many as you can but no heroic charges, no massed assaults.

For Citizens - Hide your food and stay alive.

For Wheeler's Cavalry, see Militia Goals.
That's really all you need to know, hope I don't see you and just treat those rounds from both sides as if they were real.

That is something that I believe we should all take to heart for this event.

              Eric:

Great job answering questions!! One that has been asked, but I do not see being answered yet is: "Whose hands will a captured soldiers musket and gear reside?" Not that I plan to be captured but if I am I would like to take a shot at escaping but do not want to risk leaving anything important behind.

                Eric,

Like Kace, I'd like some feeling about what's going to happen to my gear if I'm taken prisoner. Knowing that someone is watching out for a $1,000 dollars worth of ordnance equipment makes for a more authentic interaction.

Remember, I'm old and tired and don't run as well as I used to! :cry_smile

The boys of the Armory Guard (i.e. Event Staff) will be supervising the tagging and storage of the weapons. To be honest, I don't know if they intend to let people keep on their traps, leathers, etc, or not. In case of inclement weather, they will be covered.

Knowing the event staff, and reading the registered list, I would hand my brand new Henry to 99 out of 100 of them. I'd likely hand it to that one other guy to, I just don't know him yet.

What is the policy on edged weapons and bayonets?

Bayonets depend on the gun you will carry. In terms of other edged weapons, officers can carry swords, but we are discouraging bowie knives and the like unless they are documented. Please check the guidelines page here:

This will certainly work if a Federal is captured by the Militia, since the Armory Guards event staff will be with the Militia forces, and the Militia are likely to be in cohesive units.

But what about the Militia forces captured by the Federals, with whom no Armory Guard personnel are part of? And with the Foraging parties being spread out and scouring the countryside, will the event staff with the Federal Columns be able to do the same for southern weapons captured, as the Armory Guards folks will do for the Federal weapons captured?

                            Brian,
Do not worry. We will be doing much the samething for captured Militia or Cavalry weapons. Each division will assign someone to be responsible for captured weapons. This person will inventory and tag all weapons. He will then be responsible for making sure they are carried along with the rest of the forage we find.

Oh and there will be at least one Armory Guards member in Blue.

We have two Mess No. 1 guys plus a friend imbedded with the three Federal columns as well, so there will be one event staff person per column. You are correct. We should have clarified that.
