Need Powder and Caps For Bummers

Hey All,

I am in dire need of the most requisite necessities of reenacting: powder and caps. I live in MS, where apparently no one believes that people are responsible enough to have these things. If anyone lives in the area and knows of a place that sells ACTUAL powder(not pyrodex), I would appreciate it. Also, I need caps. Navy, German, doesn't matter. If all else fails, I have someone who will make me some rounds, but I'd rather get some pounds of my own powder just for kicks and giggles. Thanks

I have run across the same problem as you. I know that Bass Pro Shops carries Goex in FFg and FFFg, if there is one near you. If all else fails, there is a Bass Pro in Leeds, AL (Birmingham), Prattville, AL (Montgomery) and Spanish Fort, AL (Mobile) so you should pass close to one on your way to the event.
Last time I checked they did not carry musket caps- I am dangerously low myself and have not been able to locate any, other than by mail order in bulk and at re-enactments. They do have something similar (no. 11 caps, IIRC) but they did not appear that they would work, and were overly expensive.
I will keep an eye out for caps.

I appreciate the help as far as the powder goes. When I checked Goex's website, they don't mention Bass Pro as their retailers. On that note, I checked the website for Bass Pro and they don't list selling Goex. Just Pyrodex. No. 11 caps are for pistols and modern black powder rifles. Thanks again. I'll keep looking

Check out Powder Inc. http://www.powderinc.com/ they will ship you up to 50lbs of powder direct to your home. I doubt you need or want that much but they have a wide selection of powder grades and reasonable prices in my opinion.

Bass Pro does sell Goex, I recently bought a can there. I've gotten in the past year at both the Macon GA (also not too far from the event site) and Prattville AL stores.

Not sure where you live in South MS but you may want to head over to Gonzales, LA. There's a pretty big Pro Shop there where I reckon you could get powder.

I happen to live within an hour or so of the Powder Inc "International Headquarters." It consists of a bunch of sea-land trailers stacked with cases of black powder and an old cinder block building where they do some mixing and other assorted things. I think it's situated on an old hog farm.

I get up that way and buy it in bulk from time to time.
