Re: A Walk in the River

Being lost worked out well for some of us until Herb found us and forced us into the rifle pits. Did anyone bother to untie Landrum from the tree?

Re: A Walk in the River

We had a lot of headaches and logistic nightmares putting this one together, but I would do it all over again. Foraging was the main theme for the Yanks, but once we opened the door up Friday night, anything was possible. When you let 500 reenactors lose on a 1000+ acres, not open to the public, you better come in with the right mindset. We preached and preached that it wasn't going to be easy. Not much we could've done with mother nature. It was my idea as the lead Yankee guide to scale that rock wall. I asked Landrum's IR boys to guinea pig it first. They made it and that made the decision pretty simple. We all made it, scary as it was. Darn proud of all of you that survived!

All I can say Uncle Tom is that this Blackberry Battery sure has held up for two years without a single charge.

Yeah Ken, send the bravest or the dumbest up first. Not sure which category we fell into, but I can honestly say that if no one else made it up that we sure weren't coming back down!

Re: A Walk in the River

I make a post on my FB, and look what happens.

It is nice to see that folks still have love for the event. Was it perfect? Nope, but its infamy will live alongside Piney Woods, Winter 1864, and the Skunk Ape 200 fest for better or worse!

Re: A Walk in the River

As many have said, the challenges that came about actually made it a special event. I was enjoying the posts and just gonna lay back until Bene mentioned the "pickles". Riding up on that cabin, after capturing lots of those "Billys" and finding the abandoned "Pickle Jar" was one of those moments that just made you say, "well I'll be dad-blamed."

Other memories for me, personally were:

*Sitting in ambush on the side of that hill for nearly 3 hours for Billy yanks that never came up from the river
*Riding horses down the side of a wooded hill in the pitch black to find a camp site.
*Chasing a bunch of US infantry down the side of a mountain (or closest thing to it in central Georgia)- with our horses, on Sunday morning just before things ended.

Good stuff and my hats off to fellas like Herb, Kiev, Pete and others who worked so hard to put it together. Great memories!!

              regards,

                  It's funny,

I didn't realize my life was in danger that weekend. I was pissed because I thought I was missing some fun that others were having. Opinions are like....you know the rest.

Mr Duffer, to my knowledge the only Dead Soldier at this thing was that gallon and a half jug of white whiskey that I carried the length, if not the height, of the property until I was finally relieved of my burden late Saturday night.

Federal military discipline being what it was, I'm not perzactly sure it died on site. It may have only been wounded.

                      I really enjoyed Bummers.
I wish it could have been a couple of days longer like Piney Woods was.
Yeah, it wasn't the easiest of events, but then again the guys whose footsteps we attempt to walk in didn't have it easy either .
Would do it all again tomorrow.
