Re: AAR Bummers
This is my first post ever on the AC. I usually leave all the talking to others. Those that know me are laughing up a storm in regards to that last statement, I assure you. I was howlin' mad on Saturday, as one of Uncle Billy's Goats of the 4th Minnesota 3d Div.,climing up hills and running through valleys looking for ham trees which I was falsely lead to believe grow in Georgia--why else would we have climbed verticle hills looking for hidden stores where there were no signs of civilians or animals alike! Never saw or smelled a Reb till Sunday morning!! Tired ,foot sore, hungry, thirsty worried that it was getting dark and nobody seemed to know where the hell we were. Finally, up a path we went, it seemed that the climb would never end, and then on to our evening sojourn. Damn, if an ear of corn;an apple and some humidified wet peanuts didn't feel like Thanksgiving dinner! Being with my pards, with whom I traveled from Minnesota, including my 16 year old son and seeing us camp up, get a fire going, sharing sore foot stories and sleeping like the dead---well, in retrospect who could ask for more.I think and hope the event organizers learned from the trials and tribulations that the "lost tribe of Israel" (3d Div)experienced. I want to say that I do not appreciate those FEW that had unkind words about real concerns or anger that some of the 3d Div expressed. If you did not experience what we did then maybe you need to grow up and change your attitude. With that said,I look back on this past event fondly and would do it again in a minute. Disappointments have now faded into a sense of accomplishment and a greater understanding of the hell that is war and an increased respect for the men and women past and present who have given all and have sacrificed much on our behalf.
